It doesn’t take a genius to know quality West Coast IPAs require a stupid amount of hops. A generous blend of Nugget hops and the four Cs—Cascade, Centennial, Chinook and Columbus—brings forth a myriad of tropical fruit flavors and a brawny, persistent bitterness that makes for a highly intelligent brew.

Tap at The Spot. Big citrus grapefruit tones. Solid West Coast IIPA. Drinkable, refreshing, well done. Hop forward, but very well balanced. Filtered golden-orange body, big foamy white head.

Keg at 3 små rum, Göteborg, 21/03/14. Hazed orange amber with a moderate off white covering. Nose is caramel malt, candied orange peel, sugars, bitter hop presence, citric lead fruit rind. Taste comprises caramel malt, sweet flavours, bitter tropicals, straw. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Ok stuff, lower down the style rankings for me, a little too sweet.

Pours quite clear amber, doesn’t actually look like this one is going to be very hoppy. But it is. Aroma has some concentrated fresh hops that feel like in pine forest. Taste has a sharp bitter edge - that is nicely balanced with a malt backbone, so at least for me it doesn’t feel too bitter, only pleasantly so. Resin, pine needles, dry lingering bitter aftertaste. Very nice.

Bottle @ Kaisla. Amber color, lacing white head. Pineapple, citrus fruits and caramel in aroma. Taste of grapefruit, pine, blood oranges, sweetness. Strong bitterness, very bitter. And it lasts. Could be fresher, but I accept it as it is for now. Rerate later when in CA.

355ml bottle @ William K Sello, Espoo
Bottled 29/11/2013 - Pours copper orange with a thick white head. Aroma of caramely malts, some fruity hops, gooseberries and grapefruit. Taste is smooth, sweetish, malty and caramely with some fruity hoppiness. Finish is smooth, malty and lingering bitter with some stuffy maltiness. A bit unbalanced, doesn’t feel very fresh.

13th March 2014: pint, on tap in the Back Bay Tavern, Wholefoods, Newport Beach. Slight haze in my golden amber pint, full white head on top. The hoppy nose and taste are grapefruit citrus in nature with a spicy feel. This a bitter brew with plenty of alcohol hidden behind the hops, I liked it. I moved onto four glass flights after this (only two flights), but this was the best beer of the day and not just because it was my first!

Purchased at a random grocery store in Culver City, CA; enjoyed after a long day of exploring the LA area. Appearance is a murky gold with a thin white head. Aroma is very hoppy, with huge caramel malt notes. Taste is ok, a bit too abrasive for my tastes, seems like it’s just trying to be a hop bomb.
