It doesn’t take a genius to know quality West Coast IPAs require a stupid amount of hops. A generous blend of Nugget hops and the four Cs—Cascade, Centennial, Chinook and Columbus—brings forth a myriad of tropical fruit flavors and a brawny, persistent bitterness that makes for a highly intelligent brew.

(Bottle, 0.355 l - bottled on 29.11.2013, at Kaisla, 20140311) The beer poured amber and clear. Its head was medium sized and white. Aroma had tangerine, pineapple, citricness and fruitiness. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were fruitiness, pineapple, pine, malts, grass and bitterness. Aftertaste was hoppy and bitter. A well done balanced fruity IPA.

A hazed golden amber DIPA with a thin lacing off white head. In aroma, caramel malt with smooth floral and resinous hops, citrus, smelling of California. In mouth, a nice biscuit malt with floral and resinous hops, light catty notes, alcohol warmth, nice. On tap at Yard House Honolulu.

Drought. Amber-red color with spongy beige head, piney hops aroma, high carbonation, hoppy taste with pine-like flavor remaining on your palate, sweetish long finish. Strong and balanced,m a very good IPA.

On draft @ Hamilton’s. Murky yellow gold color, large white pillowy head that didn’t go anywhere despite the abv which usually kills it quick. Aroma is citrus and pine, taste is similar with some off flavors of burnt hops. Not bad but not outstanding especially where they’re located geographically.

Bottle from local BevMo, Sunnyvale, California. Colour is deep orange with small white head. Aromas and flavours: Fruits, citrus, piney, hints of grape, hops and malts. Re-rate Tap at Leijuva Lahna, Helsinki. Colour is deep orange with small white head. Aromas and flavours: Massive piney, some fruits, caramel, hops and malts. Nice surprise. Points 3.6 -> 3.8. One of those rare beers which are better in Finland than in USA.

22 ounce bottle into tulip glass, no bottle dating. Pours lightly hazy bright golden orange color with a 2 finger dense off white head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice soapy lacing clings around the glass, with some light streaming carbonation. Aromas of big orange zest, lemon zest, tangerine, grapefruit, pineapple, floral, grass, light honey, bread, light pine, and floral earthiness. Very nice aromas with good complexity of bright citrus/tropical hop notes with moderate malt presence; and good strength. Taste of orange zest, lemon zest, tangerine, grapefruit, pineapple, floral, grass, light pine, light honey, bread, and floral earthiness. Fair amount of pine bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of orange/lemon zest, tangerine, grapefruit, pineapple, floral, grass, light honey, bread, light pine, and floral earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice complexity of citrus/topical hop flavors with moderate malt balance; with a nice malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a smooth, crisp, and lightly slick/sticky mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a small warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very nice DIPA style. All around good complexity of hop flavors with moderate malt balance; and very smooth to sip on for the ABV. A very enjoyable offering.

Whole Foods, Bowery 355ml ($4): Pours orange with an off-white head. Aroma is a lot of tropical fruit, grapefruit. Taste is bitter and a bit sweet with a gentle finish and a slight aftertaste that sticks around for quite a bit. Well-balanced and very flavorful. Great body.

Bottled, from Systembolaget. Hazy deep golden, mid sized head. Rich grapefruity nose with a buttery backdrop and a whisper of alcohol. Mid sweet with medium-full body and rounded mouthfeel. Quite intense minty grapefruit, slight notes of syrup and caramel. Long bitter finish. Solid, but one-dimensional.
