From a 650ml bottle on 5/8/2012 (shared with Butz - thanks). Pours a dark brown with small head. Has a mild malty aroma with some chocolate and caramel. Flavour wise there’s more chocolate and caramel, some brown sugar, a modest roasty bitterness, and some nuttiness. Decent and well made but unremarkable. This brewer makes much better beers than this one.

Bottle sample at a tasting at Ariel’s place. Thanks beerandbeyond. Dark brown color with a beige head. Aroma of somewhat roasted malt, nuts and a bit of chocolate. Sweetish roasty flavor with light malt acidity, some chocolate and nuts. Medium-bodied.

Medium brown head. Clear deep brown body with lazy carbonation. Deep nougat chocolate and marzipan aroma with roasty butterscotch and resin notes. Lovely harmony, balance, and vividness to this aroma. Dry-sweet roasty marzipan and butterscotch taste with salty resiny notes. Mid-to-light body. Mild, soft mouthfeel. Dry resiny burnt aftertaste with caramelly metallic notes. Nice and highly drinkable. Appears to have been cellared too long (almost one year), but has benefited from it, too. (0.65l bottle, from City Beer, San Francisco.)

Pours copper with a small head.Nose is restrained but shows nutty malt, soft chocolate and sweet golden syrup. Pretty tempting.Very nice flavours, with sweet golden syrup, nutty malt, very faint un-roasted coffee. Underneath is faint earthy hops.Body feels slightly watery, could use more carbonation.

22 ounce bottle, no bottle date. Pours slightly cloudy reddish brown color with a nice 2 finger dense khaki head with excellent retention that reduces to a nice cap. Fair amount of lacing clings to the glass as well. Aromas of caramel, toasted malt, cola, spicy hops, nuttiness, and light chocolate. Decent aromas here with good strength. Taste of big caramel, toasted malt, nuttiness, molasses, cola, and spicy hops. Decent amount of bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, nuttiness, light chocolate, and spice. Medium carbonation and body; with a fairly creamy and smooth mouthfeel. No alcohol noticed other than a slight warming after the finish. Nice flavor balance. Overall this is an excellent and robust brown ale with a great flavor profile.
