Kasteel Hoppy is a blonde speciality beer that fits perfectly into the wave of IPA beers (Indian Pale Ale). Thanks to the addition of herbs and the mildly malty character, the youngest member of the Kasteel range is not a ‘hop bomb’. Kasteel Hoppy is a full-bodied blonde beer predominated by the aromas of hops. However, the bitter taste does not dominate.

Bottle from trade with Douberd, many thanks. Clear golden color with medium white head. Malt, green tea, herbs, light hops in aroma. Strong malty taste with green tea, herbs, grassy hops. Well, this wasn’t really hoppy.

33cl bottle at Universal lounge bar, Albir. Pours clear golden with a white head. Mild malty aroma with hints of fruits, alcohol and grassy hops. Not so much flavour in this one, quite disappointing. Moderate to medium sweet with some bitterness. Okay, but quite boring.

Bottle from Magic Beer Room. Clear golden, strong carbonation, lasting white head. Oh gee, another Duvel Tripel Hop wannabe after the Piraat version. Any good? The aroma doesn’t really think so. Vague vague herbal notes, some unappealing onion. Taste? Creamy notes, tobacco, stale yeast (?!), yeah, technically bitterish, yeah, it technically carries vague herbal hoppy (and maybe, just maybe even vaguely citric) notes which never take the lead - on the contrary, you have to fish for them, but they are there, just a coating over a slightly too weak body. It’s an anomaly within the Kasteel range of malty alcohol bombs. There is something resembling a hoppy bitterness, but it’s damn weak, lingering for some moments in the finish. Ah, it’s not a bad beer as such, but it’s dirt average, mediocre, in a range, with presentation and within a price range that makes you expect way more than it delivers. Likely won’t be having it again soon.

Clear and pale straw. Horrifying aroma. Baby poo and the first dog pee of the morning. Difficult to taste after smelling aroma. Some bitterness in aftertaste

Flaske fra Belgisk Bryg, ombord på Fridtjofen april-14: hekkan, dette lukter ikke godt. Baby pooh sier Gunnar. Definitivt ikke en aroma som inviterer til konsum. Vi går på med krum hals, men det nytter ikke - denne havner over relingen, selv om det smaker bedre enn det lukter.

0,33 l bottle, bought at a dutch Mitra somewhere in the provincie Groningen. Pale golden and nearly clear in the glass, low carbonated, small short living white head. A little bit fruity and like almonds on the nose. Starts hopy herb fruity, mid bitterness. Herb peaches, yeast and vanilla. Typical belgian beer with a small dosis more hop. Not bad but nothing special.

Clear golden colour, small frothy white head, stays a while, some lacing. Fresh hoppy aroma, bread, lemon, floral hops. Taste medium bitter, slightly sweet, hint of acidity. Medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation. Crisp dry mild bitter finish.

Ins Glas ergießt sich ein leicht trübes goldenes Bier mit ordentlicher Schaumkrone. Geruch hefig, malzig süß, leicht würzig. Geschmack leicht hefig, fruchtig malzig, Gewürze, blumig.
