Monk's Brew aka Monk’s Elixir is a heavy dark Belgian ale inspired by the Trappist monasteries of Rochefort and Westvleteren. The beer style, characterized by its high content of alcohol, distinguishes itself by its dominant yeast character, delicious malt background and balanced hop notes.

Almost a spectacular belgian. It’s very good, perfect on the figgy dark eatery fruitiness. Lacking a touch on the robustness. Mikkeller at morebeer Amsterdam

Tap at BD Tower Hill. As 'Brew'. Sweet almonds and dark fruit. Glue. A hint of booze. Dark brown. Murky. Frothy creamy blotchy head. Medium bitter bite. With booze. Molasses edge. Dark fruits. A hint of sourness. Light-medium bodied. A thin creaminess. Average carbonation. Long somewhat astringent finish. Enjoyable. Warm and bitter.

Butelka 375ml (BB 21.10.2025).

Tap at Delirium Akasaka. Surprised I hadn't rated this before. Dark brown, big golden creamy head. Aroma is Xmas biscuits, spice mainly, roasty and bit of chocolate sweetness. Hint of booze lurking. Very biscuity. Taste is similarly nice. Spice, ginger, cinnamon, creamy and roasty at the same time. Really smooth in the mouth. Pretty damn nice. Dangerously drinkable for the strength. Lovely but probably shouldn't have had this so early in the afternoon. --- Beer merged from original tick of Monks Elixir on 09 Sep 2019 at 16:06 - Score: Appearance - 8 | Aroma - 9 | Flavor - 9 | Texture - 8 | Overall - 9. 3rd LCRBM. Malty flavor and aroma with butterscotch. Roasted malt and licorice. Sweet. Red berries in the aftertaste. Good but not magical, like some other Mikkeller beers. Bottle, tasted june 2012. Deep dark brown color. Maltaroma. with caramel and coffee. malty sweet, roasty flavor with caramel, coffee and chichory. Lacks the finesse of Belgian trappist ales, but a fine beer.

Dark and sublte red pour with a decent tan head. Nice pleasant aroma with a fine intensity in this one. Quite ok to sniff on for a while. Also a fine balanced sweetness for a beer like this. And a mellow carbonation level that made it easy to drink. Boozy, but no sticky alcohol. Dried fruits, toffee, brown sugar and a bit vinous flavor. [Bottle from Mikkeller in Copenhagen, Denmark]
