Bottle at home. Over two year old bottle. Pours a deep, hazy, dark brown color with a huge, soapy, beige head. Compact aroma of Belgian yeast, brown sugar, game meat, heather, dried fruit, nuts, leather, roasted malt and cocoa. The flavor is rich with tones of licorice, alcohol, coffee, roasted malt, brown sugar and grass. Has a dry ending. Full-bodied, silky and slick mouth feel, and a surprisingly medium bitterness. A solid, strong Belgian ale which is a little more roasted and hoppy than the classics.

330ml bottle from Mikkeller online shop. Pours deep mahogany with beige head. Aroma is sweet dark fruits. Taste verges a bit far on the sweet side of a Belgian Dark Ale initially, but settles into familiar Chimay Bleu territory soon enough. Decent effort.

Virtually black. Aroma and flavour are plentiful with sugary dried fruits. Certainly very rich and sweet and reminiscent of strong, dark Trappist ales. Sweetness perhaps a bit too high.

Bottle from Cotteridge Wines; hazy chestnut brown pour with a frothy beige head, aroma has dark fruits along with some sweet caramel, taste has some yeasty action along with dark fruits, quite thin mouthfeel, candied fruits, some Xmas spices.

Pours dark amber with reddish shades. Frothy tawny head. Aroma is sweet ripe banana and espresso coffee. Full body. Powerful and fresh. Creamy. Metallic and bitter finish.

Many thanks to Beerhunter111 for this bottle. The beer starts round and nice. Fresh, malty intense dark. Plums, dried red fruit. Hints of sourness there, Not too sharp for the high ABV. The aftertaste is thick chocolate, dark plums or cherries, nice malt there. But still a bit too highly carbonated. Nice but somehow not smooth-mild for me.

Bottle from the LCBO. Murky dark brown pour with a small lingering tan head. Nose is yeast, roasted malts, toffee and ripe fruit. Lightly sweet toffee, plum, raisin and banana with a balancing chocolate bitterness and a tartness throughout. Alcohol is well integrated. Medium creamy mouth with average carbonation.

Bottle from BrewDog Nottingham. Coloyr is redish brown with a thin off white head. Aroma has dark fruit, chocolate, vanilla, and caramel. The taste starts sweet both has a dry finish.

On tap @ Erzbierschof. Dark brown color with small tan head. Yeasty, sugary, dark aroma with pears. Taste is candied fruits, candied sugar, yeasty, sweet apple most. Pears! Lots of pears. No bitterness in the finish. Smooth carbonation. Aftertaste is subtle. Not as heavy as I?d expected it. A nice brew, but cannot match against the top quadrupels. Also, lots of apples :D
