Impermanence is an imperial milk stout brewed with coffee, chocolate, and maple syrup. Below these additions lies a complex base of chocolate, caramel, and dark crystal malts. A gentle pour yields dense mocha colored head that emanates succulent dark chocolate aromas and a waft of maple sweetness that seems to stick on the senses. The flavor is decadent, featuring a luxurious chocolate mocha character balanced by a sweet and rich maple finish that builds as the beer is allowed to warm in the glass. Impermanence is dense with flavor and rich on the palate yet maintains a certain fluffiness that makes drinking a big glass a true delight! With several dessert-like attributes, we imagine this beer as a great digestif to a big Spring dinner.

500mL bottle shared by Stacey on 8/3/18.
Dark mahogany with light burnt chocolate tints on the edges. Opacity is probable but undetermined. Tan head fades slowly to a ring.
Nose opens with raisin-vanilla-prune, showing a good mix of chocolate influence, dark malt vinousness and lightly-to-moderately sweet malts. Very dry, yet light, licorice sits on the end with lactic acidity and more dark fruit notes emerging. No fudge or heavy roast. Very even, rich and aromatic, as Tree House sweet stouts seem to be. Maple and molasses meet on the end, with warming and breathing. No alcohol or flaw.
In the mouth, maple, toffe, raisin and prune all show good balance as dark chocolate dries things out considerably as it finishes. Vanilla mixes with other coffee roast-like notes as lactose mixes to increase fruitiness, imparting cherry-strawberry-like notes. Super soft throughout, though alcohol begins to build up on the back of the throat. Really nice stuff, with obvious care of brewing and attention to what flavors they've wanted to showcase. Still, the 9% shows through very heavily and feels overdone, in that aspect.

Pours a thick, dark, cola/coffee black, with smallish, creamy head. Aromas of chocolate, vanilla, coffee. Flavor is chocolate, vanilla, maple syrup, coffee, roasted grain. There's almost a touch of root beer to it. So smooth and sweet. Really, really good.
