We took the traditional IPA, originally shipped from England to India in the 1700′s, and made it bolder and more flavorful—American Style. We added new varieties of highly aromatic American hops to create a distinctive bitterness profile and an incredible hop character.

Pint Can. Translucent gold color with a big sudsy white head. The aroma is quite strong with pineapple, oranges and mangoes. The taste is similar to the nose with mixed citrus dimidiating throughout. The palate is medium-light with soft carbonation. Goes down easy. Finishes long and dry with lingering bitter grapefruit and a touch of cotton candy sweetness. Overall good stuff. Here I am revisiting an old favorite and I am glad to see it still pleases me greatly. The thrill of discovery is now gone from those early days when this took me by surprise, but it will forever remain a favorite in my heart. I know this rating is a tad more than this beer deserves, but it is hard to put an objective value on sentiment.

Can (best by 9/11/20) pour from Friar Tuck, Crestwood. Appearance is slightly hazy golden yellow with tons of sparkle, finger-width foamy white head with excellent retention and mild leggy lacing. Aroma is strong, dank piney hops over caramel malts. Taste is strong bitter with some pine and background bready malt. Mouthfeel is light-to-medium bodied with smooth, frothy texture, soft carbonation, light alcohol warmth and crisp, dry moderately strong bitter finish. Overall, gorgeous look and they indeed amped up the aromatics but the taste doesn't follow and is pretty traditional West Coast IPA, and not that interesting at that. It works out to something OK and well crafted but, since I don't love that style, wish it had been more flavorful and less bitter.
