Sahti is a Finnish beer traditionally flavored with juniper in addition to, or instead of, hops. The mash is filtered through juniper twigs into a trough-shaped tun, called a kuurna in Finnish.
The end product is a cloudy beer with a distinct taste, balanced by the bitterness from the juniper branches. The carbonation level tends to be very low. Sahti was traditionally brewed as a farmhouse ale, but commercial versions are now available.
In December you’ll have the chance to try this special beer on the Slovenian market to enrich and warm you during the winter.

Bottled 375ml. -at Cameral Koper. Orange/golden coloured, medium sized white head that went away fast, yeasty nose with whiff of apricot. Yeasty, bready, juniper and light apricot with touch of apricot. Rather strong carbonation.

On tap @ Velikonočni Beerfest Izola. Aroma is bready and yeasty with mild juniper note. Pours pale brown color with thick creamy white head and nice lacing. Tastes sweet bready, worty, honeyish, fresh herbal and mild fruity. Medium body, sticky texture and soft carbonation in palate. Liquid bread, but a bit too sweet...

Tap, Pivo & Burger Fest, Ljubljana. Very hazy amber, sizeable offwhite ehad, lasting. Almost no nose, just slight bready and yeasty notes - feel of a stale beer. Pretty sweet and quite grainy. Sligt spicess, medium light. Way to sweet for me and lacks some of the spicy/herbal character.

Draught, taster. Sampled on the 16/03/2019 at Barcelona Beer Festival 2019, (L´Hospitalet, Spain). Light orange colour with a medium white head with good retention. Aroma is bread, cheese and some brett. Taste is funk, cheese, yeast and lemon peel. Dry finish. Next one please!
