Once upon a time it was the most award winning Pizza Port beer of all time. Now it has found a new home at The Lost Abbey.

A massive brown ale base that is made from four fermentable sugars including Malted Barley, Raisins, Candi Sugar and Sour Cherries, this beer is fully fermented before being placed in Bourbon barrels where the beer ages for one year with the Sour Cherries and the wild Brettanomyces yeast that we inoculate the barrels with.

One of the most complex and unique beers we make each year.

Refrigerated 12.7 oz. bottle poured into a tulip. Pours chestnut brown with very little head. Little lacing, medium body, low carbonation, and slightly musty aroma. Taste is raisin, some cherry, and hint of bourbon. Complex but expected more.

Bottle, 375ml corked. As Lost Abbey Cuvee de Tomme. It’s an almost clear one, brown in color and topped by a minimal sized light beige head. The aroma has vinegar, dark berries, a hint of candy and some faint caramel notes. Quite complex, layering up pretty neatly. The same can be said about the flavor, where there’s also a faint licorice hint, some chocolate and a hint of black pepper. Full body, hiding the alcohol warmth very well. Lasting finish. A wonderful beer, with the aromas and flavors well integrated, making it a very balanced beer. Would certainly not shy away from having it again. 120302

Shared at a Lost Abbey sour tasting. Thanks to Tomme Arthur for bringing this one. Poured a slightly muddy red color with not much of a head. This brew was great - plenty of tart notes, sweet malts, cherry and some bottle notes. Hey there Brett, nice to meet you too. Very tasty and nice.

Bottle at Mikkeller Bar. 2009 vintage. Clear, deep red/brown liquid with medium off-white head. Aroma of sour apples, funk, oak, vanilla, cherries and dark fruit. Taste is light sweet and light to medium sour with notes of dark fruit, cherreis and almonds. Full bodied with soft carbonation and sticky mouthfeel. Really enjoyed this one! Wonderfully complex.

Purchased this from a guy doing a cellar cleaning. 750ML format, 2009 Vintage. Stored in the cellar for a month or so. Poured into an Ommegang Glass.

A - Very small cork of the pop with very little carbonation. Tiny coffee coloured head but dissipated almost instantly. This beer is a very dark hazey brown. Looks closer to a the liquid you get following squashing grapes. On a glass swirl, more red dark cherry colors are apparent.

S - Dark cherries dominate the nose followed by a very musty basement mold smell. Smells akin to a very old Bordeaux I had in France. Lots of wild grapes and bits of dark fruits and pineapples.

T - Holy moly! This is a total sour bomb. White wine characters of grapes and musty mold. The tartness is very similar to hand picked Muscadines.Nice sour cherries on the back of the tongue. The sour funk and wild characteristics are way more pronounced than expected which must be the age of the bottle. I don’t have a 2012 vintage to compare it to. The vinegar notes are great as I’m a huge fan of vinegar. There’s a minor hint of oak wood but it’s very subdued compared to the sour bomb that is this beer.

M - Minor carbonation on the mouth swish. Medium body. Huge sour funk that lingers for a very long time after drinking.

O - I was not expecting this to be such an intense sour beer but I’m excited that it is. Also, I hear now that the 750ml is a very rare format for this beer and the 2009 vintage. Stoked to have had both and bummed that, after opening I can’t share this with out local tasting group.

Bottle at Lost Abbey Tap Room. It pours cloudy deep amber, with a reddish tint and a thin, bubbly, off-white head. The nose is balsamic vinegar, strawberry, cherry, sweet red fruit and wood. The taste is malt vinegar, balsamic vinegar, tart cherry, raspberry, strawberry, wood, vanilla and a touch of alcohol warmth, with a tart-tangy finish. Medium body and low carbonation. Well balanced. Not overly complex, but very drinkable.

375 ml bottle. Clear, seep amber body with a thin beige head. Aroma is caramel, malt, dry fruit, wood, Soya and quite vinous. Flavor is both sweet and sour, there is chocolate, dark malt, dry fruit, sourness, berries and caramel. Complex and quite big in flavor, still surprisingly easy to drink. Fantastic.
