Once upon a time it was the most award winning Pizza Port beer of all time. Now it has found a new home at The Lost Abbey.
A massive brown ale base that is made from four fermentable sugars including Malted Barley, Raisins, Candi Sugar and Sour Cherries, this beer is fully fermented before being placed in Bourbon barrels where the beer ages for one year with the Sour Cherries and the wild Brettanomyces yeast that we inoculate the barrels with.
One of the most complex and unique beers we make each year.

Tap @ Avery, doing the 10th Annual Boulder Strong Ale Festival. Pours hazy brown with a offwhite head. Aroma is sour winelike with malt, oak, cherries, vanilla, chocolate. Taste is sour cherries, malt, winelike, tart cherries, oaky, cinnamon, notes of chocolate. Thin to medium body, soft carbonation, lasting tart sour finish. Fantastic. 090312

Bottle @ Too many Geuzeβs - only one toilet , Ulfborg 2012 - Day 1. 2009 Vintage. Brown color with a small beige head that quickly disappears. The aroma is lovely, sweet malty, raisins, oak, bourbon, sour cherries, vinous, some brettiness. Taste is moderate sour, very rich vinous flavor, vanilla, ripe fruit, caramel, cherries, oak wood. Like a sour/Barley Wine hybrid. Easily the best Us sour of the night. Lovely stuf.

Lost Abbey Cuvee de Tomme - 2009. Bottle looks good. Beer in the glass dark brown, small head. Sourish-dry aroma. Starts intense sour, almost aggressiv. Fruity notes of berries in the background. Finish a bit less sour, more fruity, a bit earthy. Too intense for me.

Bottle, as The Lost Abbey CuvΓ©e de Tomme, kindly shared by gunnar. Dark ruby colour, large beige head. Unusual and very complex aroma, oaky and vinous notes, sour cherries and farmhouse. Sour flavour but not extreme, the cherries are there but not totally dominant, also oaky notes.

Taste is sour with notes of burnt sugar and sour cherries. Very complex taste with lots going on. Bottle @ home, courtesy of daknole. I really appreciate it, Dak! Deep purple/brown appearance with no head. Moderately sour, dark fruity, blackberry, plum, dark raspberry, cherry, tart aroma. Tart dark cherry/blackberry/plum fruity, moderately sour, slightly spicy, a bit sugary, slightly boozy, acetic flavor with a dry, vinous finish. Acidic, dark fruity aftertaste. Pretty strong but quite tasty brew.
