Once upon a time it was the most award winning Pizza Port beer of all time. Now it has found a new home at The Lost Abbey.
A massive brown ale base that is made from four fermentable sugars including Malted Barley, Raisins, Candi Sugar and Sour Cherries, this beer is fully fermented before being placed in Bourbon barrels where the beer ages for one year with the Sour Cherries and the wild Brettanomyces yeast that we inoculate the barrels with.
One of the most complex and unique beers we make each year.

8/24/2009 375ml bottle 2009 Vintage Given to me by Barleywinebrewer, thanks for the opportunity Bill! Poured into a Maudite Tulip. Looks the color of coca cola, only no head. A few small bubbles cling to the surface but quickly disappear. Smells of raisins, cherries, vanilla, brown sugar, a touch of vinegar and alcohol. Taste is sour cherries, tart acidic flavor with some funk. Slight vanilla, vinegar and a touch of alcohol. Carbonation is almost non existent, mouthfeel is a sour syrupy mess, body is medium. I think I would have really enjoyed this one if it were carbonated, but as is Meh.

Mild kirschiger Antrunk, erfrischend, etwas holzig. Süffig, etwas holzig, wenig alkoholisch. Das Kirscharoma geht nach und nach unter, die leichte Säuerlichkeit bleibt aber nach wie vor vorhanden und passt sich dem weiteren Aromenverlauf an. Dieser ist noch würzig-holzig, mittel-malzig und etwas herb. Die Aromen wirken teils etwas gegensätzlich, im Gesamtbild passen sie aber dann meist doch recht gut. Nett, aber nicht super. Vintage 2009, corked bottle
Very dark brown color, almost black; medium-sized creamy head. Strong aroma, wild and vinous, with chocolate and malt, a bit sour; old wood. Good body strength, chocolate and malt flavor, with sour cherries fruitiness, balsamic vinegar, lactic acid; there is some residual sugar, but hidden; the sourness in the end is higher, quite aggressive, a bit astringent, tannic. Mouthwatering.
Very complex. Bold but well balanced. Excellent.

This was great, definitely the stand out beer of the night of many good beers.

Bottle. This is a delicious sour. It’s got tons of sour cherry flavor, but it doesn’t quite overwhelm the palate. Lots of acidity. Great pucker. Good funk in the aroma. Finishes dry and sour. It’s fairly complex, but the barrel notes kinda get lost. It’s a dark brownish red beer with no head, really. Very wine-ish. It’s one of the best from TLA and a wonderfully dry, fruity beer.

Bottle thanks to ygtbsm94: Poured a brown with light bubbles. Aroma is sour with wood and fruit. Taste is similar with sour wood and very dead finish. Not very carbonated and once again I missed the boat on what I should enjoy from this.

Small beige head. Opaque dark brown body. Earthy roasty chocolatey aroma with vinegary wax and oil notes. Dry-sour vinegar cherry and wax taste with chocolatey notes. Mid-bodied. Sharpish mouthfeel. Dry vinegary cherry and roasty soy sauce aftertaste with wooden metallic notes. Quite nice, and somewhat unusual. (0.375l bottle shared by gr0ve.)

2005 bottle courtesy of ygtbsm94 - how DOES he come up with these? Chestnut color, no head. Aroma of prunes and raisins, taste of port wine. Tasty.

2009 bottle. Reddish orange body, clear. Off-white head, rapidly diminishing. Funky aroma of barnyard, cherry, wood, vanilla and alcohol. The flavor is moderately sweet, lightly bitter and moderately acidic. It finishes moderately sweet, moderately acidic and lightly bitter. Medium body, watery texture, moderate carbonation. Lots of barnyard from the brett and tart cherries in the taste. Subtle complexity. Leather, plum, vanilla. Nice mouth-puckering, acidic finish.

Sample at SBWF, sold as Lost Abbey Cuvee de Tomme. A fantastic beer. Complex and full of different flavors. A lot of berries, oak, vinegar, citrus. Very nice sourness, almost perfect mouth feel. I think that I am in love, can you love a beer? Of course you can!
