Wittekerke Wit is easy to recognize by the elegant glass it is served in, its sunny colour and creamy foam head. The taste is nicely rounded with a well-defined herbal bitterness. The late famous beer expert Michael Jackson described Wittekerke Wit as creamy, aromatic, with a clean, teasing, perfumed fruitiness and a faintly herbal tartness.

Sampled at Texas Beerfest. Pours a cloudy yellow with a small white head. The aroma is yeast and wheat. Medium mouthfeel with banana and wheat. Not much going on with this one.

Bottle @ Home. Pours slightly hazy yellow with a dense white head. Aroma of lemon, wheat, coriands. Taste is wheat, lemon, bit of banana, honey. Thin body, soft lively carbonation. Refreshing, but kindoff tasteless 080511

Marvin’s DC bottle ($7): Pours a really hazy white color with a white head. Aroma of coriander and banana and citrus. Taste is not very powerful, but it is properly balanced with the exception of one little cheap note (don’t know how else to describe it). But, it is eminently drinkable and quite pleasant.

Can from Delhaize supermarket in Leuven. Old backlogged rate from 2005. A rather interesting wit, the best of a tasting we did of less well-known wits. Spicy, flavorful, with decent wheat malt character. A bit too sweet, though drinkable and refreshing.

Sampled at Vineyards in Ottawa, Ontario sometime in March 2006. Pours a cloudy golden-yellow colour with a white frothy head. Good lacing overall and medium retention. A small corriander line is formed on the top of the head and sediments are all over, and of different size and shape. The aroma is very strong with orange scent and some notes of other citrus fruits. The taste, on the other hand, is very light. The start is slightly sweet with a honey flavour and then.... nothing. Just a big fat void into the aftertaste. It gets a bit better as it warms up, but not much more. Watery mouthfeel. Good appearance and aroma, but then, it is a let down.

12 oz bottle, Poors a pale yellow, with a pure white head on top. Great retention level with an even more impressive amount of lacing. Light carbonation. Aroma is very weak. Light citrus, with a very yeasty nose. Some coriander and some light clove. bananas, clove, and light hints of bubble gum. Not as flavorful as many other brews of this style. If I’m buying Imports, I would pass this up.

Lemony with a bit of zest and more spices but nothing concrete. Though not strong in flavor, what there is is pretty good.
