Draught at the brewery, 11/1/18.
Dark mahogany-to-ebony, maroon-mahogany highlights show on the clear edges, unsure if it's clear all the way through, though. Tan head atop is small, slowly receding to cover.
Nose is earthy, nutty, beany, very tight and needs quite a while to unfold. Lactic notes and cinnamon show through first, followed by earthy, lightly fruity coffee. Eventually, while remaining fruity and lightly spicy, more vanilla and chocolate emerge with just a hint of toffee/molasses-like maple character. No alcohol or flaw.
In the mouth it's very soft with vanilla, cocoa and milk chocolate being balanced gently by lightly bitter roast and dark chocolate notes, as cinnamon slowly emerges, adding plentiful spice, yet not being overdone/dominant. Hints of sweet maple, toffee and creamy lactose-and-malt show through as it continues to soften and unfold with warming. These stouts are incredibly complex as long as you give them quite a while to warm/breath (which I guess is the case for most stouts). No alcohol, flaw or surplus of sweetness.

Pours a thick, oily black, with mid-sized, lasting tan head. Aroma has cinnamon, maple syrup, coffee, vanilla. Flavor is maple syrup, cinnamon, coffee, roasted grain, dark fruit. It is quite sweet, though not cloyingly so. The maple doesn't overpower the rest, as in some maple-heavy stouts. Nice!
