750ml. Cloudy, dark brown body with a small, o0ff-white head, mostly diminishing. Strong aroma of overripe fruit — plums, raisins, orange. Notes of licorice, caramel, candy. The flavor is moderately to heavily sweet and lightly bitter. The finish is moderately sweet and lightly bitter and moderately acidic. Flavors of licorice, juicy plum, orange. Medium body with a syrupy texture. Soft carbonation. If you like sweet flavors, you’ll like this. The aroma is the best thing about the ale.

courtesy of gillard Pours hazy brown, beige head. Aroma, yeasty and dark fruits., almost a barrel aroma. Taste, nice herbal taste with good use of rosemary. Also worth noting the addition of sweet honey and nice dark fruits. Though light in taste, the dark fruits (raisin) give the beer an excellent mouthfeel.

Pours with a small, off-white head covering an extremely dark brown body. Aroma of raisins, mint (menthol), molasses, alcohol, and pitted fruit. Taste is very yeasty and malty with alcohol and raisins. Mouthfeel is syrupy with light bubbles.
Had this at Lost Abbey recently (early January 09), the brett has really come along and it is getting funky and sour...very cool beer.

750ml bottle @Joe’s NYC Gathering–pours a rich thin tan head that laces with color. Aroma is sweet medium malt-almost molasses/caramel, dark fruit. Taste is sweet medium malt-almost molasses/caramel, dark fruit-some tart. Mild/minimal carbonation, smooth understated and enjoyable.

750 ml bottle, corked and caged. Cork lightly popped with a red wine effluvium. The aroma is something like dark plum wine (if there is such) with something like cinnamon bark. Color is a really hazy deep brown with a tan head that just ringed. Near full bodied with slightly coarse, creamy carbonation. The flavor is just amazing. There’s some sort of spice (cinnamon?) that balances the raisiny sweetness. It’s a bit vinous. It generates heat in the chest. Brettanomyces? Sour? Could be, but the result is so smooth that sour does not readily come to mind. Not very hoppy. Mixing port and dry sherry comes to mind, if some bitter is tossed in. It’s complex; it’s tasty; it’s got a touch of rosemary? Pretty amazing ale.

Bottle pours a deep redish brown with a large sandy colored head. Lots of blocky lacing. Some dark fruit, raisons and slightly spicy aroma. Flavors wer similar, earthy slightly sweet and the alcohol is noticeable but goes well with everything else. Nice.

750ml Bottle. Pours out a hazy dark brown topped with a nice cream tan head. A nice aroma of Belg spice and the normal yeast. Tast yeast malt and a little zing of lemon or something like that. Thanks Jake65 for letting me have so of this treat.

Bottle: Pours a purplish dark brown with a thick, creamy beige head. Aroma is spicey and fruity, a little citrus and lemon zest. A little yeast. Flavor is malty, vinous, spicey, and more yeast. Nice bit of dark fruits. Overall a nice ale, but not quite what I expect from Lost Abbey.
