Bottle: As black as ink, small tanned head; caramelly, fruity, toasty and port-vinous nose; solid dryish bitter-sweet flavour, medium to full bodied; vanilla and chocolate and wood in the solid roasty-caramelly finish. As good as expected…

bottle from kappldav123 - huge thanks! Deep black with a dense beige head. Promising nose of chocolate. Full-bodied., robust malty flavours domninate, lots of chocolate, some freshly ground coffee, molasses and licorice. Smooth and velvety on the palate. Delicious!

Black color with big-bubbled beige-brown head. Huge coffee and vanilla aroma, some bitter chocolate. Taste is a bit fruity, more coffee, bitter chocolate and vanilla, a spicy hot kick towards the end. Incredibly rich. Carbonation is surprisingly present. Still a silky mouthfeel. The snake bites, yes. Also because of the carbonation, and that?s why I accept this carbonation as part of the concept ;) An excellent Imperial Stout which manages to still be special! Another Lost Abbey which lives up to its reputation (I haven?t had too many).

8th May 2015: in a flight of six at the excellent Brewhouse, San Juan Capistrano, Orange County, Black with a tanned top. Smoky, bitter coffee aroma and taste: hides the alcohol well with it’s heavy coffee flavour. Impressed.

(750ml bottle @ VilleValla Pub, Linköping, April 21 2015) Pours black with a huge pillowy mocha head and lots of lace. Aroma of dark chocolate, molasses, soy, smoky charred malts, an earthy peppery note. On the palate, a fair amount of sweet chocolate offset by ashy roasted malt, slightly oxidized soy and liqourice, molasses, a noticable acidic note, earthy. Finish pretty dry with lots of burnt malt bitterness, some chocolate, soy, earthy and smoky with maybe a touch of pepper. Fairly full body with smooth creamy mouthfeel and soft carbonation, hints of alcohol. The very heavy roast definitely dominates this beer but sets it apart from most stouts. Still drinks smoothly even if it’s more acidic than sweet and unctuous. Good sipper.

Incredibly smooth, completely masking the elevated ABV. Chocolate comes to mind first, lots of roast grains. Abrupt finish.

Bottle - Molasses, little soy and bittersweet chocolate. Deep oily black with no head. Bittersweet chocolate, sweet boozy notes and a sticky long sweet finish.

On the cold weather Pgh tour of winter 2015 spring at bocktown robinson, part 2. this is a rther smooth stout that you’d never think is an impy stout till the end. A really black beer. Has a head that provides for nice lacing. No real discernible aroma. Comes across rather sterile on the nose. At first it is rather mild and creamy then they git more and more alky like. Yes, 11%b you’d never know. One of the smoothest impy stouts above 10% I ever tasted. Yes rather reserved for a big alky impy stout.
