bouteille. [notes 2006]

Bottle sample at a tasting at Beer Market Jaffa. Thanks kerenmk. Deep amber with a beige head. Aroma of stale hops, a bit dusty, a bit citric, a bit earthy, with a bit of malt. Flavor has some a bit of sweetish malt, caramel, light fruitiness, some citric and slightly earthy and floral hops, a bit stale, and some bitterness. Medium-bodied.

Draft @ J. Ryan’s. Dark Brown with solid lace. Nose is malt with a slight nutty tone. Flavor is lots of malt. Caramel, toffee with a English Earthy malt feel. Very light citrus hop in the finish. Sweeter rather then malty. Texture is creamy and really smooth. Malt forward here. ABV is completely hidden. I really enjoyed sipping this. I had to remind myself that it is 8%. Drinks like a 5% brew. Really decent. Not really sure how this is an DIPA??? The CD even says its a Strong Ale? Ok... Style lines get fuzzy.

Bomber from Half Time. Pours dark ruddy amber with a 3 finger foamy beige head. Aroma of roast caramel. Flavor is floral/fruit with caramel and then some arguably citrus rind bitter. It’s not NW bitter, but the hops are all over the malt. It’s a pretty good drink.

Bottle from New Beer Distributors, NY
Beautiful dark mahogany color; generous creamy head; sticky lace. The aroma is perfumy, with caramel, creamy, not much hoppy, maybe soapy, a noble touch of yeast. Medium body strength; dark caramel flavor, spicy (pepper); reasonable bitterness, a bit dusty and with a very light soap impression. Quite strong final bitterness. No hop qualities. Unimpressive, somehow boring.

Growler. Not really a DIPA but a nice American Strong Ale. Lots of caramel and spicier malt notes. Hops are pine resin with a little bit of grapefruit pith. Body was a little thin for the relatively sharp flavors but that was probably emphasized by coming from a growler that had to make a cross-country trek.

22 ounce bottle courtesy of j12601. Thanks! Pours a deep reddish bronze color with a medium head. Good head retention and lacing. Aroma of toffee and leafy, resiny, faintly citrus hop notes. Taste is bitter, citrus hops with faint malty notes and a little bit of butter. Medium bodied with a strong, lingering bitterness.
