Vom Jubiläumsbier zur Stammkraft – unser E.T.A., rauf und runter ein echtes Dunkles. Es wurde 2008 anlässlich des Jubiläumsjahres „200 Jahre E.T.A. Hoffmann“ für die Mahrs Bräu nach altem Braurezept hergestellt. Dass es dann einen Stammplatz bei uns bekommen hat, muss einfach an seiner Würze, seinem unterschwelligen Schokoladenaroma und seiner dunklen, nussbraunen Farbe liegen. Das fanden unsere Gäste nämlich von Anfang an großartig.

Medium beige head. Clear reddish brown still body. Syrupy raisiny aroma with spicy wooden notes. Sweet caramelly raisiny taste with spicy rye crisp bread notes. Mid-bodied. Mild, soft mouthfeel. Dryish caramelly bready aftertaste with toasted sugar and minerals notes. Lingering rye crisp bread finish. Very nice. Full of flavour and lots of character. (0.5l bottle, from wine monopoly, Strømmen.)

Clear deep amber brown colour, good frothy beige head, mostly lasting, heavy lacing. Aroma roasted malts, caramel, nutty, candy sugar. Taste medium sweet and light bitter, mild roasted malts, chocolate and nutty notes. More bitterness in the middle part and aftertaste, chocolate notes, medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation, smooth and well-balanced.

Pours brown from the bottle with a creamy head. Aroma is nutty, light smoke, corn, caramel. Pleasant. Taste is mildly sweet, salty notes, a touch of cherry. All in all a surprising depth. Body is light, refreshing, but only just robust enough not to feel watery. A stronger character here would have raised the rating for me. Overall quite good for the style.

Bottle at home, Dark brown beer, small head. Aroma is malt, caramel, hint of spice?, taste is the same. bit watery but drinkable, not bad.

Bottle shared thanks to deanso. Clear brown with beige head. Cardboard, toffee, light dusty herbs, mineral. Light sweet and bitter. Just medium bodied. It seems a bit stale and old, even though it’s just two months old. Bit weird and unusual.

07/23/2018: Bottle at home, from Heinrich 3000 Kornwestheim. Clear dark chestnut brown with light tan head. Roasted and toasted malts, chestnut, roasted grain, wheat, barley, match heads. Light sweet and moderate bitter. Medium body. Cardboard dry feel and soft carbonation. Nutty, then grainy, with a dry and bitter finish. // 10/28/2016: Sampled from bottle at THT October. Clear chestnut with cream head. Sweet roasted malts, caramel, dead leaves. Muted aroma, cardboardy. About medium sweet, and light bitter. Medium body, soft carbonation. Slick feel. Bottle from Damian. Rich and filling, at the same time refreshing. Rather malty with lots of malt complexity, toasted, bread crumbs, toffee, caramel. Very easy drinking, refreshing. Very good.

Brown color with an off-white head, good lasting. Aroma has light notes of toasted malts. Flavor is quite similar as aroma with light maltiness. Plane on palate, some watery mouthfeel.
