Copper pour, with tiny suspended particles - a little sweet up front, with some mango and citrus flavors, but man does it dry out fast - gets insanely bitter, too - I mean, I know it is an imperial IPA, but man - serious bitterness and woody hop flavor - fairly tasty for the most part, but in the finish, the bitterness becomes a little abrasive and the heat from the alcohol presents far too much - it’s decent, and certainly "big," but a little messy in the end - at less than 5 bucks a bomber, the price is right, though.

22oz bottle split. Murky, deep orange-brown color. Sweet piny hop laced orange totfee aroma. Steady off-white head. Resiny, full body. Chewy mouthfeel, with lots of toffee tones. Thick rich hoppiness, pine and orange tones. Quite subdued and drinkable despite the big flavors, a very nice creaminess to it. Balanced, rich, classy beer. Well done.

Bomber. Amber body, slightly hazy. Fizzy, off-white head, mostly diminishing. Lots of malts in the aroma and very little from the hops. Raw grain, caramel, breadiness with hint of citrus. The flavor is moderately sweet, lightly bitter and lightly acidic. The finish is lightly to moderately sweet and moderately to heavily bitter. Medium to full body, sticky texture, moderate carbonation. The flavor, like the aroma, is dominated by the malts. There’s plenty of bitterness, just not enough good hop flavor and it comes across as grainy and a bit chunky. Just OK.

draft at JK O’Donnell’s - Pours copper with an off-white head that laces well. The aroma is citrus and floral hops. The flavor is very bitter with some alcohol astringency and some backing malt that definitely takes a back seat. There’s a slight touch of citrus and an earthy tone in the flavor, but the hops are mostly just bitter. It’s medium to full bodied. It’s good, but it could be better if the hoppy flavors had more complexity.

22 oz bottle from the brewery, bottled May 2010. Pours amber with an off-white head. Aroma has grapefruit hoppiness with toasty caramel malts and a hint of strawberry. Flavor is fairly sweet grapefruit and caramel, peppery spice and pine resin. Finishes somewhat bitter. Not the best example of an IIPA, but I do find it quite enjoyable.

Sample at Heorot in Muncie, IN. This beer is a clear dark copper color with a medium off-white head that burns away quickly. Thin rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of citrus, tropical fruit and hops. Medium body with flavors of sweet fruits, floral hops and malt. The finish is fruity and sweet with a short citrusy hops aftertaste. Just average overall.
