I can finally expunge this one from my “wants” list after it had been on there for years. Thanks John. This 2009 vintage pours clear copper with tan head. The aroma is modest in strength with malts, some floral hops, pine and some tree sap. The taste is pretty smooth with pine hop resin, some spicy hops and a bit of floral hops too. Toward midway spicy hops, earthiness and a touch of roast come forward to create a near black tea like sensation.

Used a snifter. Color is a hazy amber red. The head was large at first but died down to a bubbly thin layer that left lines of lacing. Nose is citrus/ orange and piny hops, pleasant aroma. Makes me think of snapping a pine branch. Taste is grapefruit hops, mild bitterness. Piny hops, resin. Aftertaste gives a puckering affect. If I would ever drink this again, it would HAVE to be an aged bottle. I wouldn’t drink a young bottle.

Bottle at The Brickskeller, Washington DC
Hazy light amber color. Light caramel aroma and medium caramel flavor; strong bitterness, above average. More a generic American Strong Ale than a Barley Wine, it doesn’t have the malt flavor, and it has just partially some hop resins. It lacks any depth.

(Bottle 65 cl) Courtesy of Kramer17801. Slightly hazy, dark amber with a white, creamy head. Aroma of citrus and overripe fruit. Medium body with sweetish accents of caramel and then a dry finish without much bitterness. A middle-of-the-road Barley Wine. 060407

Bottle: Poured a copper-brown color ale with a medium dark head with excellent retention. Aroma of strong malty sweetness with subtle alcohol notes is clearly evident. Taste has a real creamy feel to it with some malt but everything seems to be covered by strong bitter hops. Body is full and even though taste has a warming feel to it you cannot detect the alcohol. Good barleywine overall but I guess I prefer them without too many hops and more malt presence or again maybe I should have aged the bottle a bit more.
