A huge, sweet Barley Wine with complex caramel malt notes, balanced by generous hopping and a high alcohol content. This fruity and malty beer is best enjoyed while keeping warm in the brutal winter months. January release.

Barleywines are not my favorite style of beer. Usually, they’re much too sweet and too boozy to really work for me. That said, Behemoth is easily one of the best I’ve tried. It is sweet, but not cloyingly so. I don’t feel like I’m drinking medicine or something. And though I can feel the alcohol, the beer isn’t dominated by an underlying hard liquor element. This is a beer I might actually drink again sometime. Pours a rather hazy, brownish-yellow, with minimal, quickly dissipating head. There’s a fruity, hoppy aroma and the flavor is a bitter-sweet combination of malt and hops, with a satisfying mouthfeel and bitter finish. My bottle had orange wax on it (2013?).

Red wax bottle: Cherry, oats, and orange nose approaching that of apricot. Cloudy amber, fine floaties, thick yellow head. Overripe orange, triple sec. Ethereal mouthfeel, but boozy.

Bottle. Hazy deep amber liquid with small to medium off-white head. Aroma of pine, toffee, coconut, light caramel, toast, light citrus and light portish oxidisation. Taste is medium sweet and medium bitter with notes of resin, toffee and light oxidisation. Full bodied with low to medium carbonation. Great stuff.

65 cl bottle vintage 2009 @ O’Hara’s Freehouse. Rated on 08.02.2010
Aroma is rather hoppy with lots of exotic fruits, some caramel and biscuits. Flavour is also rather hoppy with lots of fruits, some caramel, biscuits, raisins and distant herbal notes. One of the best barley wines I’ve had – quite close to a DIPA actually.
65 cl bottle vintage 2009 @ Beer Hunters, Pori. Rated on 02.06.2012
This one has turned from DIPA into a barley wine. A real caramel overdose on aroma and flavour. I liked it more fresh, harsh score estimate: 3.8.

Bomber. Nose of sweet oranges, peaches, esters, citrus hops, tobacco. Glowing orange color, lightly cloudy, with lace. Huge depth of fruits in the flavors: citrus, mandarins, dry tropical, peach, melon, mango. Coomplex, drinkable, delicious.

Bottle Red Wax: Poured a burnt orange coppery color with a soft thin off white light tan head. Aroma has a strong sticky caramel that stuck to the inner nose. Taste is a mix of burnt caramel malt and nice gritty strong citrus hops character, nice sticky fruit finish on the palate. This was a long time in the making since my original 2010 bottle broke in my check bag on a return trip to Italy from Florida. My son’s godfather had visited the brewery and had brought it to me, what a same. It was worth the wait I must say!

Bottle - 2011 (Red Wax). Thanks Randy! Pours clear amber with a small off-white head and minimal lacing. Aroma is citrus, a bit of caramel malt. Taste is citrus orange/grapefruit, caramelish roasted malt, notes of pine and just a bit of sweetness. Finish is somewhat bitter. Alcohol is very well masked in this beer. Reminded me as much as anything a warmer more alcoholic Sierra Pale Ale (bottle, not tap). Very interesting, but i am thinking to let my other bottle age for 4-5 years to see how it evolves.

On tap @ Copenhagen Beer Celebration. This is a blurry woody brown beer with a big lasting and lacing off-white head. Great sweet aroma. It's really fruity with concentrated caramel and sticky raisins. Really nice indeed. It has a average carbonation level and a kinda sticky texture. Flavors are just like a classic barley wine should taste; Sweet sticky caramel, some flowers and melon. Really tasty! A true classic barley! 12.05.2012
