A huge, sweet Barley Wine with complex caramel malt notes, balanced by generous hopping and a high alcohol content. This fruity and malty beer is best enjoyed while keeping warm in the brutal winter months. January release.

Tap at CBC, May 2012. It pours orange-amber, with a thick off-white head. The nose is spice, honey, hot cross bun, sweet fruit, grass and pine. The taste is wood, leather, lemon pith, varnish, grass, resin, golden syrup, booze, spice, grass and hot cross buns, with a long, warming-bitter finish. Full body and moderate carbonation. Overall a good hoppy barley wine, which I think I would prefer with a few years on it.

100ml draught at the first day of CBC ’12. Clear, red-brown coloured body, decent off-white head. Herbal hops and dried fruity smell. Malt-fruity flavour including ingredients like apricot, pine, herbs, and caramel sweetness beneath. Bittersweet finish. Very nice, however, rather heavy to drink (Copenhagen, 11.05.2012).

Location: 22 oz bottle from jcos/dbarnold, 3/31/12, Red Wax 2011 Bottle
Aroma: The nose is a nice combination of caramel malts and grapefruit, floral and resiny hops
Appearance: It pours an unclear dark orange-red color with a small off-white head and spotty lacing
Flavor: It has a big malty presence with a nice juicy/caramel sweetness, and a big heavy hop presence too
Palate: The body is full, with a thick, smooth, and creamy feel, a soft carbonation, and a lengthy duration. Somehow it clocks in at over 10%, without having any heat. It is both scarily and dangerously drinkable.
Overall Impression: This was my second fresh Behemoth of the month (as it is still March for another hour or so). I decided to round out March 2012 (one of my highest rating months in some time) with this one. Thanks for sharing when I was down there and then sending me home with another. I'm glad you guys have the regular Three Floyds hook-ups bringing their stuff out east. Anyway, this is a great beer. Highly recommended. I've heard it is better fresh, but that is pure hearsay, as I haven't tried an aged one.

Sample during Blarney Wine Festival on 03/17/2012. The beer is a dark reddish-mahogany color with a medium off-white head that diminishes quickly to a film. Sparse patches of lacing. Malty aroma with fruit and hop notes. Full-bodied with flavors of caramel malt, fruit and mild earthy hops. The finish is sweet with a malty aftertaste. Good Barley Wine overall.
