We owe the first Viennese lager to Anton Dreher, the inventor of the lager. With the advent of light beers in the 19th century, it was displaced, but found its way to Mexico, where the original brewing style was greatly modified. Not so with us. We have been brewing our “Original” unchanged since 1999.

Bottled. Deep amber colour with a small slightly off-white longlasting head. Aroma is mild coffee, some toasted notes, a bit wood as well as some herbal and floral notes. Flavour is cookies, some sweet malts, mild toffee and toasted notes. A bit on the watery side.

Tap sampler tray at the Brewpub Hackescher Markt. Hazy dark amber, nearly brown-ish color with small tan head. Aroma is caramel, bready, earthy, a bit nutty. Taste is bready, nutty, a bit sweet, nearly sticky. A bit messy, but quite nice, although I have to say that I generally like Ambers.

(bottle, 33cl, 5.4% abv, 13.2 Plato, subtitle: Wiener Lagerbier) Clear, dark amber colour with a mid-sized and tanned foamy head. Mildly bready and toasted malty aroma with notes of caramel, nuts and hints of vanilla, backed by a tinge of spicy hops. Bitter-sweet flavour, light to medium bodied with a modest carbonation. Slightly bready malt character with caramel, nutty notes, herbal and earthy hops in the background, which are getting slightly stronger towards the dry bitter-sweet finish. Nice one. 29.I.16

355ml bottle. Clear, copperish, faint chestnut colour with average to huge, homogeneous, foamy, fairly lasting, minimally lacing, off-white to beige head. Grainy, grassy, typical Hausbrauerei dark malty aroma with silage touch. Taste is surprisingly different, slightly sweet dark malty, hints of malt lozenge and liquorice. Nothing spectacular anyway.
