Original
We owe the first Viennese lager to Anton Dreher, the inventor of the lager. With the advent of light beers in the 19th century, it was displaced, but found its way to Mexico, where the original brewing style was greatly modified. Not so with us. We have been brewing our “Original” unchanged since 1999.

Malzbetont, schlank, trocken.

Draught @ the brewpub. Pours hazy amber with airy but stable off-white head. Clear aroma of yeast and malt, with some fruity notes and hints of hops. Bitter, hoppy flavour with a good deal of yeast and malty notes. Estery aftertaste. A trifle watery. Drinkable but nothing really special.

19th Jan 2014 draught 0.3 litres in the breweries large bar under the railway arches near Hachescher Markt S Bahn station. Came in the breweries tall handled tumbler, light amber with a slight haze, white head and a semi-sweet malt leading aroma. Pleasant enough without really doing much. There is a maltiness to the whole beer but it lacked any really deep flavour or depth of character. Refreshing and thirst quenching without testing your taste buds.

Drank twice during Feb 2013 in the Dickenstr/rail arches outlet while in Berlin. Impressed, a deep reddy brown body with a full and lasting white head of foam. Malts foremost in the aroma and taste: fairly sweet, caramel and molasses rule here. Body depth was fine: could have been thicker and ’meatier’ I suppose, but this is a lager/pilsner based beer and that should be remembered when comparing and rating/reviewing beers. By far the best of the four brews on offer during my visits: I do have a sweet tooth though, so this suited my tastes nicely.
