Brauerei Lemke Original

Original

ABV: 5.4%   Lager - Amber / Vienna
We owe the first Viennese lager to Anton Dreher, the inventor of the lager. With the advent of light beers in the 19th century, it was displaced, but found its way to Mexico, where the original brewing style was greatly modified. Not so with us. We have been brewing our “Original” unchanged since 1999.

Malzbetont, schlank, trocken.

Tap at the brewpub. Pours clear, red-brown with a moderate, light tan foam head. Dark malt nose, light caramel, perhaps even some cocoa. Light roast in the nose! (Haven’t encountered much roast in Berlin.) Very, very nice flavor. Good roasty wholegrain bread, some earthy bitterness, light to medium sweetness, toast, toasty sugars, light burnt wood. Medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. Light earthy, roasty finish, mild earthy hops, lingering toast, light cocoa and caramel. One of the best brewpub beers of Berlin.

Draft @ Lemke, Mitte. Ambrée, mousse blanche. Beau profile de malt grillé, touche de caramel pils avec un fini houblonné. Reste légère et pour un changement pas cet aspect trop liquoreux qu’ont bcp d’autres Dunkel.

Mitte location: Ruby-brown with slight haze. The aroma hints at yeasty, husky, slightly toasty beer. Very toasty, a bit thin, yeasty. Pretty basic rustic in a boring way dunkel. 6-3-6-3-11 = 2.9

Charlottenburg location: Hazy tawny brown. The aroma is mostly toasty with a hint of chocolate. The palate is reasonably full with toasty, chocolatey notes. A decent, rounded dunkel. 6-3-7-3-14 = 3.3
