Original
We owe the first Viennese lager to Anton Dreher, the inventor of the lager. With the advent of light beers in the 19th century, it was displaced, but found its way to Mexico, where the original brewing style was greatly modified. Not so with us. We have been brewing our “Original” unchanged since 1999.

Malzbetont, schlank, trocken.

06/03 Draught at the brewpub. It poured reddish to brown body with medium sized head. Strange malty nose, some smoked meat. Boring sweetish flavor made up from bit of coffee, somewhat caramel and hint of wood. Medium body, but it had long, sweet caramelly finish. Fine, ordinary and pretty boring dunkel, so typical. Unlike my friend, I found this Lemke beer to be least satisfying.

Draught at the Hackescher Markt location. Poured a hazy radk red body with a small off white head. Light caramelly nose. A nicely sweet taste, Woody, perfumey and polleny. Slightly bready, eggy. Some bitter herbal hopiness, some yeastiness that clashes with the rest. Bitter aftertaste too. Got better as it warmed.

Draught, at Lemkes Spezialitätenbrauerei, Berlin, on 26th September 2009. Russet red with off-white vanishing head of foam. Some rich malt aromas of biscuit/cookie initially, followed by a highly flavoursome, delicately balanced "focus" of flavour in which a grassy hop is met and matched by a rich cookie malt. The result is a full-spectrum very tasty beer on a zingy, tongue-tickling mouthfeel. This beer stood up very well to the meal of sausage, sauerkraut and German mustard that accompanied it - great stuff!

Draft. A slightly hazy amber beer with a lazing thin off-white head. The aroma is sweet malty with lots of caramel. The flavor is sweet malty with notes of caramel as well as bread and a touch of alcohol. The sweetness makes it a bit cloying.
