We owe the first Viennese lager to Anton Dreher, the inventor of the lager. With the advent of light beers in the 19th century, it was displaced, but found its way to Mexico, where the original brewing style was greatly modified. Not so with us. We have been brewing our “Original” unchanged since 1999.

Taster at the source. Pours foggy reddish amber. Aroma is light pepper, caramel, toasted malts, cocoa. Body is medium, gentle throughout but not letting go too much. Sweet flavours, bitterness, soft carbonation, healthy body: They match. Nuts, toffee, caramel. Medium sweet nutty palate. Good.

Sweet malt nose; murky amber brown colour, good frothy off-white to beige head, half-way lasting, minimal lacing. Aroma toasted malt, caramel, hay, light nutty notes. Smooth taste, medium to light heavy sweet and light bitter, malty, toffee, liquorice, raisins, nutty. Sweetbitter aftertaste, toasted malts, sugary; medium body, watery to oily texture, soft carbonation. Pleasant and interesting Vienna, easy to drink, perhaps a tad too sweet.

Tap at the brewpub. Brownish coloured, small head. Surprising smokey aroma. Starts fine malty, earthy, hints of some spices. Light chocolate notes. Finish a bit milder. Not as smokey as the aroma made me exspect. Nice one!

Bottle: Light amber coloured, hazy, medium-sized and slowly collapsing off-white head, fruity-caramelly nose with some herbal-hoppy edges; moderate bitter-sweet flavour, light to medium bodied; shorter bitter-caramelly finish. Not bad at all...
