Massive in every way, B-Craft delivers a complex bundle of flavors with citrus-hop aroma. Moving beyond the massive hop aroma, rich roasted malt flavors of coffee and chocolate move forward only to be checked by an impressive hop bitterness. Texture and flavor dance together so seamlessly that you may need to remind yourself that, while it drinks like a session, it delivers like an assassin.

Total Wine, Delaware 12oz: Pours murky brown with a beige head. Aroma is coffee, hints of chocolate, and a hop. Basically, I didn’t get that much hop aroma, nor did I get much bitterness in the taste. I got instead a sort of bland, strong brown ale with this one. I don’t think the bottle was too old as Total Wine has generally good turnover. I mean it wasn’t bad, but I would barely call this a Black IPA.

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a black color with an enormous foamy dark tan head that lingered forever and left good lacing. The aroma was bitter anise, floral hops, a bit of vanilla and a touch of dark fruits. The flavor was very bitter, dry and roasty with a malty undertone and notes of anise, Pine-sol and floral hops. Long roasty, bitter and dry finish with lingering anise and floral hops. Medium body. Meh.

Bottle split at Tony’s house, traded with one of the NJ/NY crew I think - notes fail me but cheers to whoever, 19/05/13. Very dark mahogony brown with a thin tan head that clears to the edge and leaves a small film. Nose is light on hops, roasty notes, bitter chocolate, dark toffee. Taste comprises hops, pine, cocoa. Medium bodied with fine carbonation, dry finish with some hop bitterness. Decent enough CDA.

Deep dark brown coloured body with a cola coloured glow near the bottom, and a nice one centimetre tall lighter brown head. Aroma of roasted malt, licorice, milk, nuts, caramel and perhaps a tiny bit of hops. Medium-bodied; Assertive roasted malt flavour with toffee and nuts very strongly flavoured, some lighter hop notes with citrus and perfume coming through and a pungent alcohol and toffee sweetness at the end. Aftertaste shows a little hop note, a lot of sugars, but mostly a roasted malt flavour with a bit of lactic notes and a lot of earth. Overall, a decent Black IPA, but I was hoping for much more hops and a bit of a more robust and complex flavour. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Liqour Outlet in Boonton, New Jersey on 30-December-2012 for US$9.59/4 pack, sampled at home in Washington on 28-January-2013.

Bottle. Pours black with off white head. Nose/taste of resin, pine, cocoa, chocolate malt and dank citrus. A bit chalky. Medium body. Finishes with lots of pine/resin.

12 ounce bottle. Blackish brown color topped by a rocky tan head. Subtle toasted malt nose hints at citrus hops and chocolate and soy. Interesting roasted malt flavor, some cola, some chocolate and some dark fruit with a medicinal note. Resiny hops come through late. Slightly sticky and bittersweet finish.

Location: 12 oz bottle from Buy Rite, 9/23/12

Aroma: The nose is a bit hoppy, a little citrus, and some roasted malts
Appearance: It pours a black color without much head and with some light, drippy lace
Flavor: The taste isn't overly sweet or overly bitter, but it leans hoppy, and has a bitter end palate
Palate: The body is light-medium, feels more watery then I expected, with a little slickness, and a dry finish
Overall Impression: This was a pretty solid Black IPA. It isn't a top of style offering, but I thought it worked pretty well. It is definitely drinkable, and I think that this beer is what it is trying to be.
