Katarina den stora styrde det ryska imperiet på 1700-talet. Under sina resor till England fattade hon tycke för den brittiska stouten och bestämde sig för att importera drycken till sitt hemland. Genom att öka alkoholhalten och andelen rostade maltsorter skapade ett London-baserat bryggeri Russian Imperial stout, ett öl som lämpade sig för den långa resan under exporten.
Ölet har en rostad och lätt fruktig smak som övergår i en fyllig avslutning med tydlig beska. Kan med fördel lagras flera år och utvecklar då en smak av konserverade körsbär och mjuknar i karaktären.
En noga utvald blandning av flera mörka maltsorter ger detta årgångsöl en komplex maltighet. Bäst-före-datum kan lika gärna ses som bäst-efter-datum.

MAT OCH ÖL
Härligt fyllig öl med stor kropp, rostade toner och svart som synden. Till den här stouten vill man helst ha en chokladig dessert. Fondant som flyter ut när man sätter gaffeln i den eller en mörk chokladglass med syltade körsbär gör ingen besviken. Den passar också till porterstek med svartvinbärsgelé för den som inte orkar vänta på efterrätten.

pitch dark ,smooth light brown head. aroma is roasted malts, wood, bitteress, faint sort of licorice, pretty nice. flavor is roasted malts, coffee, coffee powder, hard roasted malts, nicely bitter.

Bottled. A pitch black beer with a dark brown head. The aroma has notes of chocolate, roasted malt, and alcohol. The flavor is sweet with notes of chocoalte, roasted malt, soy sauce, and alcohol, leading to a dry chocolate finish.

Bottle 33 cl. Courtesy of omhper. Pours a pitch black with a small light brown head. Hard roast aroma, somewhat rustic and somewhat skewed. Solid body, heavy hard roast, dark pruney fruit and a malt bitter finish. Solid if the not entirely pleasant aroma. 260412

From tap. Pours pitch black with a small tan head. Aroma is fruity and darl roasted malty. Bitter, roasted malty and dense malty. Liqourice, roasted and thick malty. Bitter and dark roasted finish. Ends dry and roasted.

Draught at "Stora öl - små bryggerier" festival in Malmö
Black color. Some smell of roasted malt, pond water, chocolate, nuts. Medium body strength, some coffee flavor, and quite good roasted malts; there is some light sourness from the roasted malt, and a yeast impression.

Draught @ Ölstugan Tullen. Pours black with a creamy chocolate brown head that doesn’t leave much trace while slowly dissipating. Smell is subtle with roasted malts, liquorice, coffee, vanilla, wood and some pumpernickel. Taste is sweet, slightly bitter and tiny sour with coffee, brown sugar, dark bread, liquorice fudge, resinous wood and prunes. Mouthfeel is slightly fizzy, slightly creamy and medium to full bodied. Finish is sweet and bitter with coffee, brown sugar and dark bread.

330ml Bottle (Thanks Omhper) - Black in colour with a foamy tan head. Plain chocolate, leather, malt, marzipan and coffee in the aroma. Hops, coffee, liquorice, plain chocolate and roasted malt feature in the smooth and rich taste. There is a slightly peculiar element to the smell, but it’s not unpleasant and doesn’t take away anything from the taste.

(Bottle, Stockholm Beer Festival, 1 Oct 2011) Black colour with frothy, beige head. Roasted, malty nose with notes of liquorice, dark chocolate and black coffee. Roasted, malty taste with black coffee, liquorice, hints of soy sauce, cocoa and a generous bitterness in a dry finish. Almost full body. Quite impressive, and excellently balanced. Lovely!
