Brewvival 2015 Trip #132. Keg at Brewvival. Pours a hazy amber with a large frothy tan head. Good head retention. Aroma of grainy pale malt, spicy rye. The taste is caramel malt, rye, smoke. Medium bodied, lingering spice. 400th APA rating!

Bottle. Pours cloudy golden blonde with fluffy white head. Nice lacing. Nose and taste of smoke, ash, rye, smoked pale malt, oatmeal and smoked citrus rinds. Lighter bodied. A bit too much smoke.

Holy cow, I finally came across a smoked beer I can drink. The smoke only graces the finish, with a gentle touch on the malts as the beer fades, preventing any unwanted bongwater flavors. The rye gives nice depth to the beer’s center, providing a mild citric tang, while the hoppy finish coats the smoked fade with familiarity. Woody, tasty, and changes my opinion on a style of beer.
