Mild ale is an old English and a bit forgotten beer style. It is brewed with English Marris Otter malt and traditional English hop varieties such as Fuggles and East Kent Goldings. It is a beer with a low alcohol content and despite tha a full, malty flavor.

330ml bottle @ Chez Sophie, Shrewsbury. Pours dark brown with soapy ivory head. Aroma is nutty malts. Taste is nutty & earthy, presenting a much more flavoursome Mild than is the norm in the West Midlands and better for it. Some caramel and leafy rye coming into play. In all a tastier than expected beer.

33cl Bottle from Vonk. Dark brown colour, beige head. Aroma of chocolate, cocoa, some dried fruits, nuts, hint of molasses. Flavour is medium sweet, malty, some dark fruits, nuts, cocoa, chocolate, praline, light bitter finish. Light bodied, never thin. Tasty.

Clear deep chestnut brown colour, ample frothy light tan head, half-way lasting, patchy lacing. Aroma sweet roasted malts, caramel, some coffee and liquorice, something fruity. Taste medium sweet and bitter, malty, roasty. Medium body, watery to oily texture, soft carbonation, mild bittersweet aftertaste, roasty, light chocolate, despite low ABV well bodied, very nice brew.

330ml bottle. Slightly murky, dark brown colour with ruby red glimmer and average, frothy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, beige head. Earthy, fruity aroma of red and dark berries, leafy hints of corresponding shrubs, some milk chocolate. Taste is bitter hoppy, fruity, notes of red and dark berries, covering the complete earthy, leafy, bitter and tart spectrum of corresponding parings, kernels and shrubs, some morello cherry as well, slightly grainy, milk chocolately basis. Slightly dirty, very British - very nice.

On tap at Haand Festival. A brown, unclear beer with a dense, dark beige head on top. Curtains. Roasted malts, a touch of coffee and some dried fruits in the aroma. Hints of vegetables too. It’s medium bodied, dry and nicely carbonated even though an Englishman would probably find it overcarbonated. There’s a nice bitterness in the mouth, blending with the roasted malts and hints of dried fruits. A bit more coffee-ish in the end. An easy drinkable and tasteful beer I could drink more often. 150530
