5AM Red Ale is 5 malts, 5 hops and 5% abv. But that’s where the order ends.

Jump in and you’ll find berry bouncing off marmalade clashing with caramel cosying up to chocolate buzzing off spice sizzling with toast laced with lychee and colliding with biscuit.

As malty as it is hoppy. As anarchic as it is structured. Bitterness and sweetness, all neatly messed up in a triumph of pure chaos.

Perfect, baffling symmetry. Go fathom 5AM.

Malts: Maris Otter, Caramalt, Munich Malt, Crystal and Dark Crystal Malts
Hops: Nelson Sauvin, Amarillo
Dry Hops: Simcoe, Cascade, Centennial, Ahtanum, Nelson Sauvin

Great fresh malty floral beginning. The bitterness is moderate, hints of floral hops with pine and resin there, nice malty floral bitter aftertaste. Light, easy to drink and deep.

American style amber ale (or red IPA), a hit by BrewDog, tasted from tap at BrewDog Brussels. Pale yellowish beige, lacing, stable, more or less creamy head over a beautifully copper-hued ruddy amber beer. Aroma of frying sweet onions, sweat, wet tea leaves, butterscotch, pink grapefruit, dried tomato peel, paprika, marijuana, pine nuts. Clean fruitiness in the mouth, dried apricots and dried orange peel, nicely nutty maltiness, peanut- and slightly hazelnut-like with a sweeter caramelly core and a toasty ending but only relatively softly bittering, smooth and slick mouthfeel. Finishes in a pleasant combo of toasted bread and peanut maltiness with aromatic, oniony and lightly dried grapefruit-peel like, gently but adequately bittering hoppiness. Very quaffable, I could drink gallons of this.

From the tap at FOB, Rimini, Italy. Pours a beautiful brilliant brown with limited whitish foam. Aroma is birth malty and resinous, and citrus. Body is relatively dense, with some stickiness and moderate carbonation. Taste is mostly sweet, but with a nice accompanying bitterness. Very well balanced. Finish is not long, but pleasant.
