Robust and warming, this stout has hints of coffee and dark chocolate. A complex variety of roasted malts, and moderate hopping temper the pleasant sweetness of this brew.

This special batch lurked in our cellar until our brewers felt it was worthy of its name.

2016 vintage. On tap at Green Man, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma brings out plenty of dark dried fruits, moderate roast, and oak. Flavour is along the same lines, with dark dried fruits, oak, and heavy roast. Bordering on brutal, but it's pretty good. Intense stuff.

Mainly what I get in aroma is black patent malt and molasses not the coffee or Cocoa. Flavors better I do pick up some of the coffee though it’s not too fresh and Cocoa. its nice and roasty good body and fairly drinkable. No sign of the strength so far. Good finish.

Sample at the new tap room. Inky black color with a medium creamy tan head that diminishes gradually to a film. Aroma of roast malt, coffee and chocolate. Medium to full body with flavors of roasted malt, coffee and dark chocolate. The finish is roasty with a coffee and malt aftertaste. Above average overall.

Draft at the brewery during RBWG 2014 - Asheville. Pours black-brown with a thick, tan foam head. Decent beer, with a bit of chewy tar, sugary chocolate, light roast, molasses. Full bodied with fine carbonation. Sweet finish with light earthy bitterness, torched wood, chocolate, vanilla, dark bread. Good stuff on the whole.

Keg at the brewery, 17/02/15. Light black topped with a decent tan swirl. Nose is rich in malt, spice, chocolate, burnt toffee. Taste comprises roast malt, charr, spice, chocolate. Medium + body, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Ok impy, a touch basic perhaps but an easy drinker.

2014 RBWG At the brewery’s tasting room. Black with a tan head. Complex dark roast aroma. The flavor has good balance between the sweetness and the roast malts without being bitter.
