Bottle shared late-nite at RBWG 2014 - Asheville. Cheers! Pours clear gold with a foamy, white head. The nose holds rich pale malts, banana, light dough. Big sweet flavor with moderate Belgian yeast expressions. Full bodied with fine carbonation. Warming finish, with rich sugars, more Belgian yeast, banana, citrusy accents. Solid stuff. Has aged nicely.

22 ounce bottle into tulip glass, 2013 bottling. Pours slightly cloudy deep ruby red color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a thin lace cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings on the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big raisin, plum, pear, apple, banana, caramel, toast, biscuit, candi sugar, light chocolate, herbal, clove, light pepper, and yeast earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of malt/candi sugar and fruity/spicy yeast notes; with good strength. Taste of raisin, plum, pear, apple, light banana, caramel, toast, candi sugar, biscuit, light chocolate, herbal, light clove, and yeast earthiness. Lingering notes of raisin, plum, pear, apple, light banana, caramel, toast, candi sugar, biscuit, light chocolate, herbal, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Nice flavor balance, robustness, and complexity of malt/candi sugar and fruity yeast flavors; with a good malt/yeast flavor balance and zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a moderately slick and fairly smooth mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a light warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very good Belgian strong dark ale. All around good balance and complexity of malt/candi sugar and fruity yeast ester flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the big ABV. A nicely enjoyable offering.

This beer pours a hazy dark amber color with a medium foamy off-white head that diminishes slowly to a film. Patchy lacing on the glass. Aroma of dark fruits and caramel malt. Full-bodied and smooth with flavors of mildly spicy yeast, ripe fruit, malt and caramel. The finish is sweetly spiced with a lingering fruity and malty aftertaste. Pretty good all around.
