Cicada, a dry hopped Belgian style IPA, is brewed with a classic Belgian yeast strain and local wildflower honey, making it a truly indigenous ale. Subtle bubble gum notes from the yeast balance a smooth, caramel maltiness. Both citrus and earthy flavors round out this full-bodied, amber-colored beer.

Available September through October.

Some florals and very light citrus but Belgian yeast controls this beer. Pours orange with good head and lacing. Some sugary booze and candied malt. Light sweet finish and some bitterness. Tap at brewpub.

Crystal clear amber coloured body with a touch of a copper and ruby tint and a large, thick five centimetre tall tan head - very nice with millions of super small bubbles rising from everywhere. Aroma of alcohol, floral and piney hops, yeast, caster sugar, oak and dry malt and a bit of flowers. Medium to Full-bodied; Deep sweet and resinous hop and tropical fruit flavours at first with a mild lacing of hop bite followed by a good and deep caramel malt finish. Aftertaste has a deep floral and perfumey character, but hard to pin down the sweetness versus hops versus malt - they come out equally, such that defining a style for this one isn’t easy. Overall, a good beer, but nothing great or something that needs to be sampled by everyone! I sampled this 75 cL bottle purchased from Liqour Outlet in Boonton, New Jersey on 31-November-2013 for US$8.09 sampled at home in Washington on 12-January-2014.

Location: 750 ml bottle from Sparrow, 10/13/13

Aroma: The aroma is sweet and yeasty, lots of honey, plenty of floral notes, and some lighter spice
Appearance: It pours a cloudy reddish colo, wiith a foam beige head and lots of sticky lace
Flavor: The taste is medium-plus sweet, with some floral hops, and just a little balancing bitterness
Palate: The body is medium, fairly sticky, with a slight tingle, and a lightly dry finish
Overall Impression: I actually thought this combination worked pretty well. The heavy sweetness didn't bother me. There's enough hops to provide balance. The honey is prominent, but the floral, spice, and citrus notes play interesting roles here as well. Worth trying.

750 ml bottle. Deep amber gold color topped by a large rocky beige head. Fragrant toasted malt aroma with subtle honey and citrus hops notes. Bittersweet complex toasted malt flavor with dryish notes. Obvious notes of honey and citrus hops are nicely balanced by the tasty malt backbone. Their is an underlying spicy black pepper character throughout that lingers long into the aftertaste. Nice clinging Belgian lace.
