Bottle pour from Friar Tuck, Crestwood. Appearance is very dark brown (virtually opaque) with nice sparkle at the edges of the glass, finger-width khaki head with poor retention and no lacing. Aroma is vanilla, roasted malt and cocoa. Taste is vanilla, milder roasted malts and later more moderate cocoa with marshmallows. Mouthfeel is light-to-medium bodied with smooth, frothy texture, soft carbonation and finish as taste with mild lingering bitterness offsetting the sweet. Overall, the aroma and flavor could be bolder it’s a bit thin for the style, but enjoyable.

Bottle: Dark, clear, red-lit black with a tan head. Slightly ashy, chocolate and vanilla scent. Taste is vanilla, chocolate malt....a touch of roasty bitter. Flavour and body come across too lightly to make this one stand out......good....but very little to it.

Bottle. Vanilla, chocolate malt, grass, and light ash aroma. Dark brown with moderate tan head. Moderately sweet vanilla, light chocolate malt, and mildly bitter dry hay flavor. Okay body. Decent but malt flavor is a bit light.

Bottle from Big Muddy tap room, bought during August eclipse. Deep reddish brown with a fizzy soda head that disappears quickly. Smell has a pleasant nose of vanilla, though I might like to have found a bigger backing of roasty malt. Taste has plenty of vanilla, and there is some sweetness, but not in cloying amounts, like many vanilla beers. Still, it's kind of light, more like a vanilla porter than a stout. But I do like it.

12 oz. bottle. Pours dark brown with a light beige head. Aroma of dark malts and vanilla. Taste is roasted malt, vanilla, lactose, chocolate notes. Moderately sweet finish.

12 ounce bottle. Translucent cola brown color. Large frothy "root beer" head. Roasted malt nose reminiscent of dark caramel and vanilla. Flavor is light roasted malt. Notes of vanilla and sweet malt. Nutty toasted pecans in midtaste. Mild dark corn syrup notes in finish. More like a porter or brown ale than a stout.

12 oz. bottle. Black pour, with a big, foamy, tan head. Nose is strong vanilla, butterscotch, light coffee, and pecans. Cloying sweetness, with a touch of bitterness. Medium body, syrupy, and a little acerbic. This is a pretty nice beer, with a ton of vanilla. The vanilla is nice, but the base stout is lacking.

Purchased at Bottles and Cans in Chicago,IL; enjoyed at home while cleaning after a long work day. Appearance is a dark brown with a thin white head. Aroma mostly vanilla with a little bit of chocolate. Taste is mainly vanilla with a bit of lactose, pretty sweet. Not a big fan of this guy.
