We use a combination of Northwest hops to create layers of pungent flavors in War Hammer. A generous malt build adds biscuit and honey notes while allowing the hops to take center stage. War Hammer pours golden in color with aromas of grapefruit, passion fruit, tangerine, and pine.

Poured from a bottle dated 03/25/15. Aroma has a fairly strong caramel and toasted bread malt profile with some lighter cracker and biscuit. Some moderate grapefruit and pine resin notes with some dank woodsy notes. Slightly spicy hop aroma as well. Pours a hazy, reddish copper color with a moderately large, thick, slightly off white head that shows good retention as it recedes to a film that lingers. Moderate lacing and medium small legs. Flavor is slightly sweet and similarly malty with quite a bit of toasted bread and nuts with lighter caramel and cracker notes. Rather high bitterness with a moderately strong hop character. Light alcohol spice in the finish. Hops have a moderate citrus character with quite a bit of pine and other woodsy notes. Some light spiciness as well. Fairly dry finish with only a slight stickiness. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, this is not a bad beer but the hops and malt profile do not match my personal preferences for an IPA. Finishes drier than I was expecting which is nice.

Bottle - thanks to beernbourbon! Pours hazy orange with a very large puffy off-white, slightly pale orange head that lasts a long time and laces well, if a bit clumpy. Aroma is dank, citrus, tropical, cat piss. Flavor has definite sweetness, some pineapple and mango flavors apparent. Medium bitter, but not harsh. A bit of an almost candy-like note in the initial stages. Medium body, creamy mouthfeel, some ABV burn. Pretty nice beer.

Pour is a clear copper with a large white head. Aroma is a fresh blast of fruity, resiny hops. Flavor is again a aggressive hop with some pinapple and mango aftertaste like the label says. Malts are slightly there, just enough to give this a medium moutfeel. Solid. So this is what a fresh DIPA tastes like? I had forgotten.
