Inspired by London’s Industrial Revolution when Smog filled the air and the Porter was the beer of the people. An original home brew recipe using 9 different malts including a good chunk of smoked ‘Rauchmaltz’ from Bamberg, Germany. Big flavour hits of molasses, raisins and caramel are cut with the resinous US hop Chinook. Smokey aromas fly, reminiscent of the smoke stacks of industrial London.

On tap at Fakin Craft Bar, Zagreb. Shared with lovely Anja, Višnja 666 and Pilot Goran. Dark brown to black, small beige head. Moderately smokey, roasty, ash. Dry. Smooth. Medium body, great balance with malty sweetness.

Can, thanks Sandi! Pitch black body with a tan head with medium retention. Elegant aroma mixing smoked malt notes integrated nicely with sweetish chocolate notes, dry overall, a bit malty. Taste.... Full on blasts of lovely, lovely chocolate, with just enough smoke to balance it out but without being too smokey. Smoked malt here is not the gimmick but one of the ingredients. So damn soft, so damn drinkable. This is a fantastic beer. I'd hoped for a lot, I got way more. Hats off Beavertown, for the ABV, I cannot think of a beer as rich, as tasty in the style, the hype is real, it would seem!

Van de tap in de Wildeman, met M, Yukie, Huub en Rabo. Zwar van kleur, met een licht rooksmaakje, bijzonder lekker!

Review based on the BJCP2015 guidelines (style 32B / 13C). Can 33 cl - Batch L1189 (BBF 12.17). AROMA: medium roasted malt aroma with notes of biscuit, chocolate and some roastiness. slight sweet background. no smoke. APPEARANCE: very dark brown color and opaque with ruby highlights. medium moussy light brown head with good retention. TASTE: medium roasted malt profile with notes of biscuit, dark chocolate, slight coffee and faint licorice. medium-low bitterness with an almost dry and slightly roasted and bitter finish. PALATE: medium-light body with medium-low carbonation. slight creaminess. OVERALL: a bood english porter base but without the advertised smokiness (at the end of its shelf life).

Can at home. It looked great in the glass and had a nice aroma of toasted malts. The flavour was all toasted malts and a sweetness that was pleasant. The mouthfeel was soft and velvety and the beer slipped down a treat. I had it with tuna and pasta bake and it worked well with the cheese. I couldn't detect any smokiness, which is a good thing and shows how well integrated the beer is. One complaint was that the sweetness became a bit cloying towards the end of the glass, but overall very enjoyable.

Can, 0.33l. Pours almost black with thick creamy light brown head and fair lacing. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, dark chocolate, dried fruit, dust and mild smoke. Taste starts with light to medium sweet rich roasted malt and umami note, follows by licorice and mild sour fruitiness, mouthfeel is smooth and mild spicy, while finish is mild bitter. Full body, thick creamy texture and average carbonation in palate. Getting better and better with every sip...
