Inspired by London’s Industrial Revolution when Smog filled the air and the Porter was the beer of the people. An original home brew recipe using 9 different malts including a good chunk of smoked ‘Rauchmaltz’ from Bamberg, Germany. Big flavour hits of molasses, raisins and caramel are cut with the resinous US hop Chinook. Smokey aromas fly, reminiscent of the smoke stacks of industrial London.

330ml can. Pours black with a one finger tan head, dissipating quickly to a thin film. Aroma: smokey, roasted malt, vanilla, chocolate. Taste: smoke, roasted malt, chocolate, vanilla, toffee, nice balance of sweet and bitter flavours, long finish, bitter and smokey. Medium-full body, slick creamy texture, moderate carbonation. Pretty good.

Can at Le Trappiste, Bruges. Pours hazy black with a small, foamy, beige head that leaves little lacing. The aroma contains roasted malt, coffee, dark chocolate, oats, licorice and smoke or smoked meat. It tastes light sweet and light to medium bitter with a medium long roasted finish. Soft carbonation, medium body, slick but not thin. A very enjoyable, new experience.

Can at One 29 (aka the Cork), Felixstowe. Pours very dark brown with a maroon tint and a short lasting beige head. Aroma of light smoked meats, roasted malt, chocolate, and a touch of coffee. Moderate sweetness and roasted bitterness. Medium body, slick to oily texture, average carbonation. Finish is dry, chocolaty, and subtly smoked. Nice.

Many thanks to Rian for this can. Fresh and malty beginning, not too much smoke there. Nice malty porter, quite dry and highly drinkable with only very few hints of smoke.

330 ml can. Pours a very dark brown with huge head. Aromas of lightly smoked malts, dark almost sour fruit, and chicory. Flavors follow same with smokiness well integrated and not prime. Well balanced and tasty. Great stuff.

Does what it says on the tin, a smoked proter, very smoked. It is darker than the german Aecht, more thick, more cigarette. Still not sure how I feel about it. Re-rated (again). I am just not a big fan of this beer to be honest. I know it is technically okay, I just find the smoke on a porter is just a bit too much. Too clingy. Down from 3.4 to 3.1

Very intense and smokey smoked porter. Aroma is just pure smoke, dark malts and some hints of liquorice. Very intense. Mouthfeel is smooth and creamy. Flavour is also creamy and smooth, smoke not as intense as the aroma. Very nice!

Lata 33 cl de 1420 León. (r463). Lote 1015 BB 11..10..17 tomada en Belmonte 15..01..2017. Color negro intenso brillante con espuma beige oscuro Aromas y sabores maltosos tostados suaves con herbaceos y amargos algo resinosos al final. Tostados algo torrefactos y ahumados. Cuerpo ligero fácil de beber liquido. Bastante buena Para repetir sin duda.

Creamy beige head soon left a cover on a black still body. Burnt roasted aroma. Medium body, active on the palate. Smooth on the back. Roasted malt, burnt coffee, dark sugar, aniseed, liquorice. Almost medicinal. Excellent from Beavertown - As ever!!

Shared at a tasting, thanks Panayiotis, small stable creamy head, aroma of dark bread, smoke and jerky, flavor of smoked meat, dark bread with a hint of barnyard, a bit on the light side. Nice and mellow, just a bit old.
