Inspired by London’s Industrial Revolution when Smog filled the air and the Porter was the beer of the people. An original home brew recipe using 9 different malts including a good chunk of smoked ‘Rauchmaltz’ from Bamberg, Germany. Big flavour hits of molasses, raisins and caramel are cut with the resinous US hop Chinook. Smokey aromas fly, reminiscent of the smoke stacks of industrial London.

33cl can from Viking XPRS. Pours black with a dissipating beige head. Roasty and smoky aroma with dark chocolate, dark fruits and mild wooden notes. Medium to moderate sweet, flavourful with nice and balanced smoky notes and a light acidity. Pleasant and easy to drink. Could easily have more of this.

From the can. Pours very dark with a thin light brown head. Aroma is lots of smoke, and underneath it all, hints of dark chocolate. Taste is mildly bitter, but also increasingly sour on the swill, and ends with black soot in an otherwise sour finish. A faint oatmeal sweetness is noticeable, but the sourness and the smoke have the upper hand here. Mild carbonation on a medium body. Decent stuff.

330ml can. Pours dark with no head. Aroma is mostly smoke with a little choc and coffee. Flavour is a nice oaty body with smoke and coffee notes.

0.33 l can from ’De Bierkoning’. Clear, very dark brown to black with a beige head. Sweetish, malty, quite roasty and a little smoky aroma of dark chocolate, coffee, some licorice and a touch of hazelnut. Sweetish-malty, quite roasty and a little smoky taste of dark chocolate, coffee, licorice and hazelnut, followed by a medium long, moderately roasty-bitter, slightly smoky finish. Medium body, slightly creamy and a bit effervescent mouthfeel, average carbonation. Nice, especially for that abv!

Can. Darker brown pour with a light brown head. Lace is brown, sticky and drippy. Good smoked malt sons, with some roast and toast. Bit of chocolate as well. Finishes fairly dry and smokey. Quite well done Smoked Porter.

Tap at Brewdog Brussels. Pours dark brn with a tan head. Smoky aroma for sure. Med body. Flavor is smoky black meal with som mild chocolate notes. Make this your last beer of the day - unless you have an old Brewdog Paradox! Finishes dry and smoky.
