The concept was to create a juicy tropical beer. A brew you can sit on and drink all day, rammed with juicy malts and huge tropical aromas of mango and grapefruit. Massive additions of whole leaf American hops are added in ever increasing numbers at the end of the boil giving huge hop flavour. The beer is then dry hopped for days, driving the punchy aromas so you can smell it from miles away!

Funny, I came to have a look at my original rating from years ago when Gamma Ray was first released in bottles. And it turns out I never rated it. Odd. Those were good days. The early days of craft beer as we know it. Admiring the wall of bottles in Borough Wines and picking out 7 or 8 from Partizan, Beavertown, ELB and Kernel. It felt like selecting obscure records from Rough Trade; great works of art from the creative underground, out of reach of the mainstream. Didn't last that long for Gamma Ray. Brewed then by a couple of people in a basement with love and care. Now mechanised and brewed in huge volumes for lairy football fans to chug. To me, this is one of the differences between craft beer and mainstream beer. The spirit and passion behind Gamma may be gone but it's not forgotten.

33cl can from Horsham in UK, many thanks to my wife's couisin Betka. Big, egg-white good retention head. Shiny gold, light hazy colour. Orange, grapefruits, fresh tropical fruits, caramel touch. Medium malty base, orange, grapefruits, tropical fruits, nice not strong yet long lasting harmonic bitterness, medium carbonation, good one, enjoyed.

Can@Ølfred Aarhus StreetFood. Pours hazy dark golden with large white head. Aroma is pine, rosehip, lilac, lavender and fresh mown grass. Taste is very sweet, medium bitter and faint acidic. Body is creamy with light carbonation. Finish is long and balanced sweet and bitter with notes of sugar, pine, flowers, lavender and mint. Very rich.

(Can) Pours hazy golden amber with huge loose white head. Great piney hop aroma, with hints of grapefruit. Medium bodied with nice bright carbonation. Taste has a nice background of biscuity malt. Some gentle citrusy notes at the start. Some nice hoppy notes throughout. Surprisingly modest bitter finish. Very nice.
