Barrel fermented, strongly hopped, light colored north German style ale, brewed with over 40% wheat malt. Dry hopped and lagered. Our interpretation of a style brewed in Einbeck in the 1300's.

Reviewed from notes.
Can to tulip.
Appearance: golden yellow color with a quickly dissipating head that didn't leave any lace
Aroma: funky to wheaty to nectarine skin to woody and foresty; tart to sour notes, good soured-wheat
Flavor: blends the previously noted aromas to a fine sour to tart quality; subtle sweetness underneath; finishes tart and semi-vinous
Texture: light bodied but leaning towards being a sipper; smooth? eh, not so much as the tart and sour tones do provide a nice pucker quality
Overall: nice sour ale worthy of coming back to.

Bottle thanks to Matt! 2014, so its been around a while. My bad. Pours clear golden, very large white head that eventually dissipates leaving minimal residual and lacing. Aroma is tart and funky, hints of barnyard, mushroom, damp wood, forest floor, botanicals, lemon, wheat, hints of stonefruit. Quite complex. Flavor is light plus tart; as they say, all beer was sour beer in the 1300s. Bacteria? What the fuck is that? Light body and high carbonation. This is a very interesting, complex and enjoyable beer. Opens up still more as it breathes and warms. Among other things that diminishes the mushroom smell in favor of other damp earthy forest floor moss type things, which is good.
