Bottle shared at Dean’s Winter Shelter Tasting. Pours near black with a small tan head. Aroma of roast, dark chocolate. Flavour is over moderate sweet and bitter. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.

Bottle from Beers of Europe. Poured a deep mahogany with a thin tan head. The aroma is weak dry yeast malt. The flavour is medium to strong bitter with a liqourice malt dark chocolate palate. Medium to full bodied with average carbonation.

Sampled from bottle @ Deans Winter Shelter Tasting. Opaque pitch black color, small to medium sized light brown head. Smell and taste malts, roasted malts, lightly chocolate, bitter, slightly coffee. Full body, medium carbonation. -- Short re-rate September 6th 2015: malts, quite some chocolate, nicely bitter. Appearance is superb as well this time, opaque black color with a medium sized medium to dark brown head. Very nice! (kept score as it was)

Bottle. Opaque black liquid with small to medium tan head. Aroma of coffee, citrus, bread, licorice, chocolate, ash and smoke. Taste is light sweet and light bitter with notes of ash, coffee, dark fruit, raw sugar and chocolate. Medium to full bodied with medium carbonation. Quite nice.

Pours black with a large dark tan head.Nose shows vanilla, roasted malt, spicy hops, oatmeal and milk chocolate.Flavours include a strong sweetness, vanilla, spicy hops, alcohol, chocolate liqueur and hazelnuts. Good stuff.Nice moderate carbonation and syrupy body.

Opaque black - brown beer, tidy tan head. Palate is airy and dry. Rich dark malt, dry with a little roast and coffee. Traces of smoke and malt cream. Dry finish. Found this slightly hard work due it dense darkness and dryness.

22oz bottle pours an oily, opaque black with some thin, sudsy, off white head. Standard nose, malty, sweet, brown sugar, licorice, dark chocolate, a little plum, coffee. Flavor is malty and chocolatey, licorice, brown sugar, some coffee, a nice lick of smoke and a distinct black pepper note. Full, sweet finish. Very likable.

Got in a trade with Cyde. 22 ounce bottle into snifter, bottled 12/2011. Pours pitch black color with a 1 finger dense tan head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of big dark chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, light char, toast, toffee, wood, smoke, coffee, vanilla, and roasted earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark and roasted malt notes with moderate smoke presence; and good strength. Taste of big dark chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, toast, toffee, light char, wood, smoke, coffee, vanilla, and roasted earthiness. Lingering notes of chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, toast, toffee, light char, smoke, coffee, vanilla, and roasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice balance and complexity of dark/roasted malt flavors; with moderate smoke balance and zero cloying flavors on the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a slick, creamy, and lightly chalky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a damn nice smoked imperial stout. All around nice balance, complexity, and robustness of flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the gravity. A very enjoyable offering.
