Small sample from 660 ml bottle, from Vinmonopolet. Black colour. More of a stout than an old ale in my book, but decent enough to drink. Roasty and slightly spicy aroma and flavour. "Liquid Christmas pudding"? Not quite, which probably is an advantage for the drinkability.

Handpump (cask) @Luppolo Station (Rome). Black color with a brownish little foam. Nose: leather, tons of it. Earthy a bit, macerated cherries, dusty room. Mouth is clean, refreshing, well-made. Warm feel of alcohol, sweet roast, resins. Fantastic!

Bottle at home, 14th October 17. Pours pretty much black. Aroma is caramel, cocoa, slight spice. Taste is light liquorice, caramel, not as much spice as I expected. Palate is light, slightly watery. As it warms there is some wood, malt, slight yeast. Not bad.

Bottle from Brewklopedia. Purplish brown, opaque with a small khaki head. Chocolate, figs, liquorice, a touch of vanilla. Sweet, sweet war,ing taste with a smooth vinous note coming in midway through the sip. Light bitterness on the finish but the whole experience is quite sweet without being sickly. Plums and brandy notes in the finish. Heavy carbonation adds to the full, slick mouthfeel. A special beer.

F: big, tanned, average retention. C: dark, opaque. A: dark malt, cocoa, chocolate, nutty, dark berries, bit vinous. T: very chocolate, cocoa, dry toasted tones together with dried dark fruits, dates, herbal, bit orange, medium to full body, low to medium carbonation, light oily mouthfeel, very good, enjoyed, 66cl bottle from BXLBeerFest in Brussels.
