The base beer was our new 7.4% Black Stout and the whisky casks were provided very kindly by the excellent and innovative Bruichladdich distillery on Islay.
This is a one off beer, made in a very small batch, and all bottles are individually numbered.
This beer will age extremely well, so don't worry if you forget about it for a while.

Bottle at Deans Winter Shelter Tasting. Poured a dark mahogany with a bitter liqourice aroma. The flavour is medium bitter with a creamy caramel hop bitter palate. Medium to full bodied with flat carbonation and a slightly oily mouthfeel.

Sampled from bottle @ Deans Winter Shelter Tasting. Opaque pitch black color, full sized beige to light brown head that lasts for quite a long time. Aroma and taste are malts, dark malts, earthy, lightly peat, bitter. Only slightly barrel aging present. Medium body and carbonation.

Bottle bought @ Systembolaget. Pours very dark brown with a frothy wooden brown head that slowly dissipates while leaving some thick lacing on the glass. Smell is malty with roasted malts, dark bread, toasted cereal, single malt whisky, vanilla fudge, dark chocolate, sweetened coffee, moist soil, charred wood, liquorice fudge, peat and hints of smoke, burnt caramel and alcohol. Taste is tiny sweet, slightly bitter and malty with roasted malts, toasted cereal, sweet dark bread, charred wood, peat, whisky, vanilla fudge, sweet liquorice candy, moist soil, hay, coffee, cocoa powder and hints of smoke. Mouthfeel is soft, smooth, round and medium bodied. Finish is bitter and malty with toasted malts, bread, charred wood, vanilla fudge, coffee, cocoa powder, soil and hay. Nice balance and I guess it’s pretty good but it lacks a lot to pop. Had pretty high expectations from this but it seems the pretty packaging was slightly deceiving.

Botlle #582 of 1051. It pours black with a medium beige head. The nose is mellow roast, coffee, vanilla, marshmallow, wood, iodine, cocoa and fudge. The taste is bitter roast, treacle, peppery, charred wood, earth, motor oil, whisky, salted caramel, burnt notes, liquorice and light vanilla with a dry, roasty finish. Medium+ body and fine carbonation. Pretty flavoursome, but I just don’t think the balance is quite there.

(Bottle) Black colour with lasting, creamy, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with notes of liquorice, strong black coffee, cacao, vanilla and a touch of Islay whisky. Malty, roasted taste with strong black coffee, liquorice, black rye bread, ashes, vanilla, oak wood and a touch Islay whisky. Generous roasted bitterness. Almost full body, quite dry. Impressive stout with a nicely balanced whisky wood character. Very nice.

Bottled, thanks to Jens for sharing. Near black with a lasting tan head. Big and vineous fruity and malty aroma with whisky and oak, and a faint touch of smoke. Sweet and slightly roasted flavour with fruity notes. Initially quite intense, then a pretty flat middle, and finally a hoppy and long lasting bitter finish
