We are pretty sure this is a world first. This is a 100% organic Scottish beer aged in 100% organic Scottish whisky casks.

The base beer was our new 7.4% Black Stout and the whisky casks were provided very kindly by the excellent and innovative Bruichladdich distillery on Islay.

This is a one off beer, made in a very small batch, and all bottles are individually numbered.

This beer will age extremely well, so don't worry if you forget about it for a while.

Draught at Bishop’s Arms Folkungagatan, Stockholm. Pitch black, creamy beige head. Peaty smoke with butter, licorice and chocolate. Near full bodied with well rounded mouthfeel. Whisky gets very prominents, but is in harmony with tarry, heavily roasted malt. Salty licorice lingers in a finish, where the Bruichladdich whisky really shines.

Bottle at Bottle Shop Canterbury. Bottle 1077 of 1271. completely black beer with lasting beige head. Slightly peaty aroma. Wow in the mouth that is intense as hell. Rich dark malts. Edge of intense cassis. Edge of engine oil. Edge of hops. I am not a big fan of impy stouts but this is arse bangingly good. Best UK impy stout i have had in some time. I dont normally like islay whisky stuff but this is subtle balanced and allows the base beer to shine and the islay character augments rather than drowns the beer. Fuck me sideways this is good. Sorry im going to have to stop rating whilst i enjoy bliss.

Christmas tasting at the Kernel. Opaque black beer, tidy pale tan head. Creamy buttery nose. Smooth semi dry palate. Creamy dark malt with a little dark fruits. Vanilla note that may be the barrel or maybe strong diacetyl. Dry finish. Alright!

Bottle at The Kernel Christmas Tasting 2011. Pours black-brown with a foamy, beige head. Has a huge butterscotch aroma, along with faint dark malts. Flavor is lightly sweet with mild roast, some creamy caramel, light earth and grass. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Lightly dry on the finish, lightly roasty, with some butter, oil, and dark earth. Kind of an interesting beer, but the flavor isn’t too dynamic. There’s a hefty dose of diacetyl in here as well that really isn’t doing the beer many favors. I still enjoyed the beer but I would like to try another bottle to see if there was an issue with the one I had.

Bottle at home ... deep brown black ... thick tan head ... soft sweet chocolate ... light iodine nose ... soft chocolate roast ... light cardboard .. dark fruit ... soft smoke roast 3.5

33cl bottle. Pours opaque black with a very generous latte head. The nose has creamy chocolate, some coffee, with some sweetness. There is a hint of liquorice when the head clears a little. The taste has creamy chocolate, prunes with a crushed biscuits and nutty finish. The palate is thick textured with a dry but thick texture and a long dry finish. However, the palate does not make you want to have more, it’s too cloying. Overall, I think I’ve done the whisky cask thing now and often it is a waste of a good stout and a good whisky barrel - it takes away drinkability. I had this simultaneously with the Paradox Aran from Brewdog and there wasn’t much in it.
