Purchased at Hyde Park Wine & Spirits in Cincinnati, OH; enjoyed while watching game 7 of the World Series. Appearance very cloudy dark brown with thin off white head. Aroma is overtly malty, malty to the point where it kinda smells moldy, definitely syrupy. Taste is very malty and rich, definite spice presence, caramel, sweet, you can taste the hops for sure, maple syrup. Very heavy body, moderate carbonation. I’m not blown away by this one, good for a holiday ale.

(Bottle, Stockholm Beer Festival, 1 Oct 2011) Hazy reddish amber colour with brief, airy head. Malty, fruity nose with caramel, rubber, earthy hops and pine needles. Malty, fruity taste with notes of caramel, orange peel, grapefruit, pine needles, dried fruit and a generous, slightly earthy bitterness in the finish. Almost full body, slightly sweetish. Very nice and quite powerful. 7/4/8/4/15. Rerate: (Bottle, 5 Jan 2015) Reddish amber colour with firm, lasting, beige head. Malty, fruity nose with caramel, apricot marmalade, orange peel, blood orange, treacle, pine needles and hints of pink grapefruit. Malty, fruity taste with notes of caramel, treacle toffee, dried apricots, bitter marmalade, candy sugar, toffee, pine needles, a touch of liquorice and a certain spicy, piney bitterness in the finish. Almost full body, quite sweet. On the sweet side, but tasty and quite complex with a fresh hop character. Very nice.

Bottled at Stockholm Beer Festival. Hazy brownish amber, small head. Aroma of caramel and grapefruit. Sweet with rounded mouthfeel and medium-full body. Lot of caramel. Feels tired and almost cardboardy. Warming finish with long bitterness.

Bottle @ home. Cloudy, caramel brown appearance with a big, orange tan head. Moderate to highly piney-citrusy hoppy, toasty malty aroma. Piney, citrusy, grapefruity hoppy, toasty, light caramel malty flavor. Piney, grapefruit aftertaste. Tasty beer.

Pours cloudy golden with a off-white head. Aroma has notes of malt, caramel, toffee and pine. Taste is medium sweet and medium bitter with a long sweet, pinny bitter and slightly boozy finish. Body is full, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.

22 oz. bottle, split with Matts_Property, pours a murky dark ruby red with a medium beige head. Aroma is both intensely malty and hoppy, with loads of caramel malt, balanced by copious resinous hops. Flavour is amazingly rich, with loads of caramel malts, some candied sugar, balanced by truckloads of resinous hops. Tons of depth and complexity, with both a massive maltiness and hoppiness that compliment each other superbly. Remarkable beer.

Aromatisch hopfig-vollmundiger Geruch. Hopfig-süßer Antrunk, vollmundig aromatisch-hopfig. Herb-spritzig werdend, der Hopfen wird kräftiger und wird durch die Süße süffig unterstptzt. Hefig-stark, der Alkohol ist erkennbar, der Hopfen legt weiter zu. Andere Aromen sind allerdings meist Mangelware, dennoch ein gutes Bier! Danke an den Doppelbock! 11/12/11/12/7/11

Received in trade from TexIndy, thanks for the opportunity. Pours a clear deep ruby color with a fluffy beige head that sticks itself to everything in sight. Smells of oranges and grapefruits initially. Caramel and pine mixed with some sweet juicy fruits as well. Taste is of caramel and brown sugar right off followed by some citrus and pine hop bite. Slight alcohol burn in an otherwise dry finish. Sticky resinous mouthfeel, medium level of carbonation, medium body. Another great brew from Alesmith. Nicely balanced and still interesting.
