This beer is a response to the very bitter beers that are being brewed all around the world at present. In this case, the denomination IPA does not stand for India Pale Ale, but for Incredible, Powerful & Amazing. Instead of mostly American hops, 7 Flemish hops from the Westhoek region have been used. Obviously, the taste is very bitter, but the beer has a “balance” that makes it very drinkable and invites you to have another round.

Bottle shared. Pours cloudy golden with a big off white head. Aroma is bready, caramel and biscuity malt. Flavour is light moderate sweet and over moderate bitter. Light medium bodied with light carbonation. A bit lacking in hop aroma but maybe the bottle isn’t fresh enough.

33cl bottle courtesy of and shared with Kermis. Thin creamy white head. Hazy golden blond pour. Slight bitterness. More of a pale ale than an IPA.

330 ml bottle. Pours slightly hazy, amber with a nice and foamy head. Foams seems to stay for much longer than average. Aroma has some herbal hop freshness, bubblegum and something sour. Silky caramel? First sip is actually quite nice, has honey mixed with some bitter hop resins and pine needles. Then the taste kind of dies out, leaving somewhat watery aftertaste - but with some lingering bitterness. Overall, not bad but also not my favourite kind of IPA.

Whereever this is brewed, it ain’t Kerkom. Hasn’t been operating for several years, now. St. Jozef @ Opitter is most probable. Very good, fine & dense yellowish cream head over veiled golden beer with a verdigris sheen, lively carbonated; Very flowery nose, slightly resiny, bit toilet soap - very aromatic and inviting, great even! Bitter, (root)spicy and again a soapy flavour - much less nice than the nose, and even outright crude. Quite a bit of tea, as green tea served too strong. After some time, it mellows, but remaining agressive. Finish has some maltsweetness all the same. Medium bodied, quite slidk, resiny slickness; spritzy carbonation. Bitter flowers - les fleurs du mal, peut-être? An overdose of an unlucky choice of hops, not doubt - maybe one ought to keep sniffing? Surprising for St. Jozef, to say the least.

Hazy dark yellow colour. A very sweet aroma which is also minty. Flavour has some candy sweetness. There’s an element of Blackpool Rock to this one. In the background there is grassy, floral herbal hops and the finish is bitter. Not unpleasant but unusual.

Odense drinking Belgian Beer in February. Hazy yellow with a small white head, Malty aroma of biscuit and toffee, with phenolic notes of cookie spices, and grassy and citrus notes. Sweetish bready flavour with grassy hops and a harshly bitter finish
