Sampled on draft at the brewpub this beer poured a fairly thick dark black color with a medium sized creamy dark tan head that lingered and left good lacing. The aroma was strong roasty malts, anise, smoke, and wood - very assertive! The flavor was thick and intense strong roasty malts, wood, smoke, campfire and hints of vanilla and anise underneath. Very long roasty and smoky finish. Moderately full bodied. Solid.

22 oz. bottle from Whole Foods Market Richmond, VA. This past beer’s I’ve tried have been fantastically horrible, so I guess here is a chance for redemption. Pours a dark molasses colored brown with faint wisps of head. The aroma is nutty roasted malts with some molasses and metallic notes. Taste is roasted malts, brown sugar and coffee grounds. Watery texture.

Deep pitch black body with a thinnish but nice tan head. Aroma of milk, cream, roasted malt, oats, coffee and some sugar. Medium to Full-bodied; Strong roasty taste along with some milky flavours followed by a light sweetness. Aftertaste shows the lactic qualities, but also some oats and roasted malt - not bad. Overall, a good beer - not absolutely amazing, but definitely worth trying if you can find it! I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Kybecca in Fredericksburg, Virginia today on 31-May-2008.

Bottle. Dark brown/black pour. Extremely roasty aroma. Flavor is almost completely roasted malts and coffee with a great dark chocolate subtleness to it. A little bitter for my liking, but
