This Imperial Stout borrows from the voluptuary decadence of 18th Century Russia, with its extravagantly smooth blend of crushed coffee beans, cacao nibs and dark malts.
Dig past the infusions of vanilla pods and toasted oak chips and eventually you’ll come face to face with the madness required to make this beer: a kind of depraved logic that would make Rasputin himself proud.
To fully unleash the aromas and bittersweet luxury of this stout we recommend drinking it from a stemmed beer glass before taking a sledgehammer to a Faberge egg.
Malts: Extra Pale, Wheat, Cara, Smoked, Black and Roasted Barley

Review based on the BJCP2015 guidelines (style 20C). Bottle 33 cl - Batch D98 DDBB. AROMA: very strong roasted malt aroma with vinous notes, some vanilla and coffee. APPEARANCE: jet black color and opaque. creamy average dark brown head with good retention and lacing. TASTE: very intense and complex flavour with notes of roasted and malts, dark chocolate, coffee, some wood and a vinous aspect that complements the taste. moderate bitterness from roasted malts with a roasted and semi-dry finish. PALATE: full body with a nice velvety texture. gentle alcohol warmth almost imperceptible. moderate carbonation. OVERALL: a very nice and roasted oriented imperial stout with a lot of complexity.

Bottle. Appearance is black as night, completely opaque, a one finger light brown thick head which quickly diminishes into a bubbly covering. Aroma- milk chocolate, espresso coffee, hint of smoke, cocoa, hint of leather, vanilla, treacle. Taste- lots of bitter, espresso coffee, malts that have been roasted to the point of being scorched, burnt treacle, toast, dark chocolate- the 80% cocoa type. Thick and slick mouthfeel, although the finish isn’t as long as expected. Decadent and delicious.

33 cl bottle, BB 03/12/19. Sampled on May 15, 2015.Black color, dark brown head. Sweet, roasted, alcohol scent. Roasted, grainy, dry taste. Alcohol aftertaste, also cocoa. Medium mouthfeel, to fizzy. Medium bitterness.

Bottle 33 cl. Black with a minimal lightbrown head. Nice chocolate aroma and some coffee, roasted and dark fruits sense. Sweet, light bitter with a long warm chocolate end.

Darkest brown, no CO2 visible. The light brown head is dense and persistent. The aromas are really intense: smoke, coffee, lemon peel, liquorice, chickory, cream, caramel... In the mouth this stout feels ripped and immensely built. Starts sweet, then develops itself slow, really slw, towards a great long sour and bitter finish. Be careful, it’s easy to get a beer booze with this one. You’ll freak out!

Tap @Brewdog Shepherd Bush. Black with creamy tan head. Cocoa, chocolate aroma. Flavour has bitter milk chocolate, wood and coffee. Alcohol well hidden. Dry and sticky, medium bitter finish.

On tap at 23 beerz Nagoya. Pours out black topped with a tan head. Nose is roast malts chocolate coffee vanilla cocoa and some wood. Taste is more of the roast malts chocolate coffee vanilla a little bitterness on the end.

Easter tasting @Igor’s place. 0.33 bottle from Magic Beer Room, Remetinec. Deep black color with brown head, oily structure. Dark chocolate, caramel, very aromatic. Alcohol, bitter, dark chocolate sweetness. Has a bite, you can feel the alcohol, lingering aftertaste. A liquid chocolate classic!
